and Fitness 2
Welcome to the University where you opt
to study PATHFit 2 - Exercise-Based Fitness
Activities. Today marks the beginning of
the 2nd Semester, Academic Year 2024-
2025! You are now part of the university
family and a community of committed
learners who aspire to achieve their full
potential towards becoming well-
functioning and responsible citizens of our
nation and the globalized world.
PATHFit 2 builds on the
foundation of motor skills
achieved through core training
(targeted strengthening)
Core muscles refer to a group of
muscles located in the central part of your
body that play a critical role in providing
stability, balance, and support for your spine
and pelvis. These muscles are essential for
maintaining proper posture, performing
physical activities, and preventing injuries.
Abdominal Muscles

Rectus Abdominis: Often called the "six-pack,"


this muscle runs vertically along the front of your abdomen.

Transverse Abdominis: The deepest abdominal muscle that


wraps around your torso like a corset, providing stability.

Internal and External Obliques: Located on the sides of your


abdomen, these muscles assist with rotation and lateral flexion
of the spine.
Back Muscles

Erector Spinae: A group of


muscles that run along the spine
and help with extension and rotation of the
back.

Multifidus: Small muscles located along the


spine that provide stability.
Pelvic Floor Muscles

These muscles support the pelvic organs and


help maintain core stability.
Diaphragm

The primary muscle for breathing,


it also contributes to core stability.
Hip Muscles
Hip Flexors (e.g., Iliopsoas): Connect the
pelvis to the thighs and help with
leg movement.

Gluteal Muscles: Assist with hip


movement and support the pelvis.
Functions of Core Muscles

Stability: Support the spine and pelvis during movement.


Posture: Help maintain an upright position.
Balance: Enhance control over body movements.
Strength: Provide power for physical activities like lifting, bending,
and twisting.
Protection: Reduce the risk of injuries by stabilizing the body.
It will provide experiences in a
variety of exercise programs for
the purpose of maintaining and
enhancing cardio respiratory
and musculoskeletal fitness
(i.e., core stability, muscle
strength, endurance and
power).
It includes speed and agility
training with a focus on body
coordination and balance. In
conjunction with fitness and
wellness concepts, exercise and
healthy eating principles, learners
will be able to enhance their fitness
through goal setting and
application of the exercise
principles (i.e., frequency,
intensity,time, type, progression,
and volume);
adapt their movement
competencies to
independent physical activity
(PA) pursuits and periodically
evaluate their PA and eating
patterns to monitor their
progress and achievement of
personal fitness and dietary
goals (CMO 39, 2021).
This semester may be filled with
challenges and adversity as the
country still adjusts to the post
normal. Nonetheless, with our
collective effort of practicing our
university core values, we can hurdle
whatever obstacles might come our
way.
As you make your way through your
school life and create your career
path, know that you are in an
educational community that will
cultivate your distinctive talents and
will also challenge you to be the best
version of yourself. Use the education
you will obtain from the University
wisely for the well-being of your
family, our people, our country, and

INTRODUCTION
Physical Education came from the
Latin word "physica", meaning
physics and "educatio", meaning
the training of the bodily organs
and power with a view to the
promotion of hearts and vigor.
The philosophy of Physical
Education emphasized using
physical activities to reach
valuable educational goals,
the mental, social, spiritual,
and moral goals.
It aims to help the students
develop physical competence
skills and good habits.
It assists in developing smart,
competent intelligent
individuals. It refers to the
individual growth and
development of the total body
movement, safety when it
comes to physical activities.
LEGAL BASIS OF
PHYSICAL
EDUCATION
In accordance with the pertinent
provisions of Republic Act (RA) No.
7722, otherwise known as the
"Higher Education Act of 1994" in
pursuance of an outcome based
quality assurance system as
advance under CM046s 2012 and
virtue of commission, the following
policies,
standard and guidelines are
hereby accepted and promulgated
by the commission for the purpose
of nationalizing physical education
in the country with the end in view
of keeping pace with the demand
by great competitiveness; and
pursuant to Article XIV, Section 19
of the Philippine constitution
which mandates that the state
shall promote physical education
and encourage sports programs,
league competitions, and amateur
sports, including training for
international competitions, to
foster self-discipline, team work,
and excellence for the
development of a healthy and alert
RESOCIALIZATION
Resocialization is “a
process that subjects an
individual to new values,
attitudes, and skills
defined as adequate
according to the norms of
a particular institution, and
the person must change to
function adequately
according to those norms.”
According to Erving Goffman, a
Canadian-born sociologist, social
psychologist, and writer,
resocialization is a process of tearing
down and rebuilding an individual's
role and socially constructed sense of
self. It is often a deliberate and
intense social process and it revolves
around the notion that if something
can be learned, it can be unlearned
SKILL
A skill is the ability to do
something well, a certain
competence or proficiency.
Skills are typically acquired or
developed through direct
experiences and training, and
they can require sustained

The Importance of
Physical Education and
School Sports
• It is beneficial to the students‘ health and
wellbeing;
• The skills acquired prepares the body,
mind, and spirit for proper behavioral
functioning;
• It enhances development of motor skills
and sports skills of the students; and
• The relationship of trust gain between the
teacher and student can lead to a
psychosocial support to value life.
Q: Discuss the main objectives of
Physical Education Curriculum?
Health is the natural condition. When sickness
occurs, it is a sign that Nature has gone off
course because of a physical or mental
imbalance.
The road to health for everyone is through
moderation, harmony, and a sound mind in a
sound body.
