Greening Youth
Foundation
Greening Youth Foundation (GYF) is a
501(c)(3) non-profit organization that
provides educational programming,
training, and career exposure to
opportunities in the conservation and
environmental fields for diverse youth.
GYF’s mission is to nurture enthusiastic
and responsible environmental
stewardship among under-served youth
and young adults while exposing them to
conservation and environmental careers.
GYF Programs
• Public School Initiative (PSI)
• Collegiate & High School Internship Program (CHIP)
• Urban Youth Corps (UYC)
• Youth Conservation Corps (YCC)
• Historically Black Colleges
and Universities Internship (HBCUI)
• Resource Assistants Program (RAP)
• Second Century Internship Program
Urban Conservation
Training Institute
UCTI is a 3.5 acre educational farm and training center
that provides youth development programming,
workshops, and events aimed at offering
transformative outdoor experiences to the
communities we serve.
Youth Conservation
Corps
Through the YCC, GYF provides youth and young adults with skills,
transformative experiences, and support that prepares them as the
next generation of global environmental leaders. Using targeted
recruiting methods, specialized job-preparation training,
marketable certifications, mentorship programs, paid internships,
service projects, job reviews, assessments, and several levels of
support, GYF places youth and young adults on a viable path to
economic self-sufficiency.
Resource Assistants
Program
The Resource Assistants Program (RAP) is an
internship for individuals who are interested in
conservation and/or natural and cultural
resources, environmental management,
research and development, and career
opportunities with land management agencies.
The program emphasizes outreach and
recruitment of current students, recent
graduates, and underrepresented populations.
Hiring Authorities:
RAP
The Resource Assistant hiring authority is designed to
facilitate learning experiences for participants while they
accomplish vital agency work. RAs may acquire two-year
hiring eligibility to apply to FS merit announcements after
960 hours of satisfactory work and at least an Associate
degree.
Hiring Authorities:
PLC
The Public Land Corps program provides the opportunity for
young people between the ages of 16 and 30 to work on
conservation projects on public lands. Participants must
successfully complete 640 hours that include at least 120
hours on federal lands through the PLC. PLC members are
not federal government employees, but those who
successfully complete the PLC requirements are then eligible
to use a noncompetitive hiring status for two years.
BLM DHA Program
DHA-RAI is an 11-week rigorous summer internship program for
current college students or recent graduates. The program offers
geoscience opportunities that engage new and diverse viewpoints
while working on rigorous projects designed for attracting,
recruiting, and filling mission-critical positions within the agency.
Participants that successfully complete the program will be eligible
to be non-competitively hired into federal positions for two years
starting from the completion date of their qualifying degree
program.
