LESSON 1:
Shapes Creation

1
Warm - up

Hello, how are you?

My Name is (Teacher’s Name) and I am your new friend.
What is your name ?
*students reply*

Oh great, that’s such a nice name!

Do you know why you are here today?
*to learn about computer*

Could you tell me the languages you speak?

*students reply*

So, to communicate with you, I have to use these languages, right?

*yes*

2
Warm - up

If I speak Japanese, will you be able to understand me?

*no*
Similarly, to communicate with a computer, we have to talk in a language that a
computer understands.
Do you know how it is done?
*students reply*
We do so by ‘coding’. Coding is like talking to a computer. We use
special words called ‘codes’ to tell the computer what to do. We can
use coding to make fun games, cool websites, etc. on the
computer. Coding is like using a secret language that only
computers can understand. It's so fun to learn and use different
coding languages like Python, Java, and JavaScript. When we learn
to code, we can tell the computer to do fun things for us, like play
games or draw pictures. 3
Problem Statement

Once upon a time, in a magical land called Geometria, there lived a group of
geometric shapes that loved to create beautiful artwork. They had their own
special lab called the "Artist Lab" where they used a magical code to bring their
artistic ideas to life.

In this colorful lab, there were six main shapes: Square, Triangle, Circle,
Rectangle, Hexagon, and Star. Each shape had its own unique personality and
talent. Square was known for its steady and stable nature, Triangle for its sharp
creativity, Circle for its endless ideas, Rectangle for its balanced designs,
Hexagon for its intricate patterns, and Star for its sparkling innovations.

4
Solution
One sunny day, Square had a brilliant idea. "Let's create something special by
forming the first and last letters of our names!" Square announced excitedly.

Everyone gathered around, intrigued by the idea. They set up their magical code
blocks, arranging them in a line to create their art.
Instructions for
Teacher
Tell students about the code.org
platform:
Code.org is a website that teaches young learners how to code. It has fun and
interactive activities that help kids learn the basics of coding. It also has tutorials
and challenges that help kids learn more advanced coding concepts.

Code.org is an amazing adventure into the world of computer science and

coding. You'll learn how to give commands to the computer using special words
called ‘code’. These orders can make characters move on the screen, draw cool
shapes, and even play music. You get to play and try different orders and it's so
much fun!

Code.org is perfect for kids who are 6 years old and up, and has lessons for
children in kindergarten to 12th grade. They have lessons for kids who are just
starting to read all the way to more advanced lessons for older kids.

Step 3: Time to choose your name from the

names listed in the grey boxes.

Step 4: Now, enter the ‘secret words’ as given

by your teacher and type them in the white
box below the instruction: “Now enter your
secret words”.

9
Instructions for Teachers

Toolbox/Blocks: Blocks you find in the Toolbox are COMMANDS you give to the
computer such as N to make the artist move North or up, S to make it move
South or down, E to make it move East or right, W to make it move West or left.
These are called BLOCK COMMANDS. Hence, the whole process is called
BLOCK PROGRAMMING/BLOCKLY. Drag these blocks to the workspace and
snap them together, till you hear a ‘click’ sound.

Play area: This is where you find the artist’s movements in which direction it is
going to draw different shapes or designs.

Instructions: Always read the instructions to understand how to solve

the puzzle, it consist of question that needs to solve through coding.

10
Instructions for Teacher

What is a command?
A COMMAND is an instruction which tells the
computer what to do*.
Each arrow block is a COMMAND to the computer to
move the artist one step in that direction.
Solve this puzzle.
Start giving commands to help the Artist draw
something.
How did you know the number of times you need to
move east?
*01*
Very good! This is Mr. Artist and we have to help
him complete his drawing by giving commands.

11
Instructions for Teacher

You have to drag and drop the direction or arrow blocks into the Workspace area
and connect them to the ‘when run’ block.

Note: You will hear the ‘click’ sound when code blocks connect together.

Once all steps have been followed it is in indicator that we have written our code
blocks, hit the RUN button to see working of the code. Encourage the student at
each point of time.

12
Assessment
1
Ask the student the following questions to check the pace of the learner.
What is command? Answer: A command is an instruction which tells the
computer what to do.
What do you understand by coding? Answer: The process of commanding the
computer is coding.
Which platform are we using for coding? Answer: code.org
What do you understand by ‘E’ block? Answer: E stand for East block.
(This is an assessment to recall the concepts learnt so far).

1. Teacher explains how to draw a line and

square in artist lab.
2. Explain directional blocks (N, S, E, W, NE, SE,
NW, SW).
3. Explain how to change the colour of the square
made. Use ‘Set Colour’ block.
4. Inform students to use only the blocks that are
taught in the class.
5. Inform the students that Pink block and
Repeat Block should not be used for now.
Tell them that you will use that when we study
about the concept of repeat block.
