Quantum Computing
• Quantum Computing is a cutting-edge field of
computing that leverages the principles of quantum
mechanics to process information in fundamentally
different ways compared to classical computing.

• Quantum computing is a type of computation that

uses quantum bits, or qubits, which can exist in
multiple states simultaneously. This is in stark
contrast to classical bits, which can only be in one of
two states: 0 or 1.
Key Concepts in Quantum Computing:
• Qubits (Quantum Bits):
– Classical bits are binary and represent a state of 0 or 1. A quantum bit (qubit), however,
can represent both 0 and 1 simultaneously due to a phenomenon known as
superposition.
– Qubits are typically implemented using particles like photons, ions.
• Superposition:
– A qubit can be in a superposition of both 0 and 1 at the same time. This allows quantum
computers to perform many calculations simultaneously.
– When measured, a qubit collapses into one of its basis states (0 or 1), but until then, it
can be in a combination of both.
• Entanglement:
– Quantum entanglement is a phenomenon where qubits become correlated such that
the state of one qubit can instantly influence the state of another, regardless of the
distance between them.
– This allows quantum computers to perform certain tasks much faster than classical
computers, as the information between entangled qubits is shared in a highly efficient
way.
Classical vs Quantum Computing
Why Quantum Computing is Important:

Speed and Efficiency:

• Quantum computing can solve problems that
are currently impossible or take too long for
classical computers to address.
• Some problems, like factoring large numbers
(used in cryptography) or simulating molecular
interactions for drug development, are
expected to be solved much faster with
quantum computers.
Applications:
• Cryptography: Quantum computers could break many of
the encryption schemes currently in use, but they also
hold the key to building stronger quantum-resistant
encryption methods.
• Optimization: Quantum computers can solve optimization
problems much more efficiently, which can benefit
industries like logistics, finance, and manufacturing.
• Artificial Intelligence (AI): Quantum computing may
accelerate machine learning algorithms by processing
massive datasets faster.
Major Quantum Computing Players:

• IBM Quantum: IBM is developing quantum

processors and has made significant advancements
in building scalable quantum systems.
• Google Quantum AI: Google achieved quantum
supremacy in 2019 with its quantum computer,
Sycamore, solving a problem that would take
classical computers thousands of years.
• D-Wave: Specializing in quantum annealing, a
method for solving optimization problems.
