Objectives
At the end of the lesson, students are expected

1.Understand different communicative styles
2.Identify communicative styles used in the given
situation
3. Participate actively in the discussion

COMMUNICATIVE STYLE
• means the form of language that the speaker uses
which is characterized by the degree of formality

• a speaker uses different speech styles according


to the given situations, place, or persons involved
1. FROZEN STYLE
• It is used in very formal setting
• It is the most formal communicative
style.
• Does not require feedback.
• It uses long sentences with good
grammar and vocabulary.
ExampleS::
National pledge
Marriage ceremonies
Speech for state ceremonies
2. FORMAL STYLE
• Used in speaking to medium to
large groups
• Speakers must frame whole
sentences ahead before they are
delivered.
• Uses a set, agreed upon
vocabulary
Example:
Meetings
School lessons
Interviews
3. CONSULTATIVE STYLE
• Used in semi-formal communication.
• Most operational among other
styles
• Speaker does not usually plan what
he wants to say.
• Sentences are shorter
Examples::
Group discussion
Teacher-student/ parent-teacher
conferent
 Doctor-patient conversation
4. CASUAL STYLE
• Used between friends and families
• Relaxed and focused on
getting information
• Slangs are often used
• Relationship between speaker
and hearer is closed.
Example:
Casual conversation with
friends and family
Chats, phone calls or
messages
5. INTIMATE STYLE
• Completely private language use
within family or very close friends
• Uses personal language codes
• Grammar is unnecessary
• Endearment, slangs or expressions
are used
Example:
Couple talking about their future plans,
family sharing ideas,
very close friends sharing secrets, etc.
