What is People Media?
People media is the term used for those
individuals who widely influence others
by reaching out to them through various
means. They are involved in the
analysis, evaluation, use, and production
of media and information. It is most often
the source of information, and they are
responsible for spreading such
information. It is the oldest form of
teaching, which can be on oneself or on
another person.
People media may also be defined as the
utilization of people who are competent in
their particular fields to talk about their
skills and help other people learn with first
hand experiences on a particular field or
topic. People media was present during
the advancement and development of
technology and made the existence of
media possible. They created every kind
of media from text to multimedia to
manipulative to communicate and share
information in an easier and faster way.
Characteristic of People
Media
1. Articulated- It is having the ability of being able to express oneself
easily and in a clear and effective manner.
2. Charismatic- Charismatic is having the ability to build a favorable
image that can be seen by other people or individuals.
3. Credible- It is the capability of convincing people to believe that
something will be successful or trustworthy.
4. Flexible- Being flexible is being able to utilize and choose from a
wide range of technology and perform varying tasks in the proper
manner.
5. Tech savvy- This term refers to proficiency in the usage of various
technology and devices, particularly computers and smartphones.
6. Updated- It is being up to date with the current information,
events, and technology.
People as Media
The people themselves are the media, and they serve as the
medium for another person to learn or acquire new things and
knowledge from. They are well-connected to media sources and
can provide information to people in a manner that is as quick,
accurate, functional, and reliable as possible.
1. Citizen Journalism
It refers to any type of news gathering and
broadcasting of information using websites, blog
and social media that is conducted by individuals
who are not journalists or without professional
training in journalism. Citizen journalism has grown
to its worldwide influence despite concerns
whether citizen journalists are as reliable as
professional journalists. Citizen journalism is a
foundation to people that encourages them to
actively participate in social processes.
2. Crowd sourcing
It involves the practice of obtaining needed
knowledge, ideas, information, opinions, work, or
services from a large group of people from the
online community. Individuals who are involved in
crowdsourcing sometimes work as paid freelancers
while others do so on a voluntary basis.
Crowdsourcing increases the productivity of a
company while minimizing its expenses. Social
media became an essential component to
crowdsourcing as it allows organizations or
companies to reach a wider audience in a faster
and more effective manner.
3. Opinion Leaders
They serve as a leader for a certain group who
gives details and information to the people who
are less active in the group. They are actively using
media and possess a strong social status. Their
recommendations and opinions are heard and
accepted when making important decisions in the
group. An opinion leader's ideas and behavior
serve as a guide or model to other people. This
influence may affect both other people's thinking
along with their behavior.

2. People get the latest news in a very short time. Distance is not a barrier. People
get news daily through the media and this keeps them updated on the happenings
around the world.
4. It leads to individualism. People spend too much time on the Internet and
watching televisions. As a result, socialization with friends, family and neighbors is
affected
Text Information and Media
Text is a simple and flexible format of presenting information or
conveying ideas whether hand-written, printed or displayed on-screen.
Text is very powerful as well in disseminating information, providing
direction and giving suggestions. Text is available in different sources
whether itis formal or informal.
Text as Visual
Typeface or also called font, font type, or type refers to the
representation or style of a text in the digital format. A typeface is
usually comprised of alphabets, numbers, punctuation marks, symbols
and other special characters. When fonts are installed in the computer,
they usually come in file formats such as True Type Font (.ttf),Open
Type Font (.otf), etc. In the absence of images or drawings, text is the
easiest way of communicating to your audience. The use of various
font types can express different emotions or meaning.

Types of Typefaces
Serif -connotes formality and readability in large amount of texts. This font is usually used
for the body text of books, newspapers, magazines and research publication. Also, serif
fonts give a classic or elegant look when used for title or heading.

Sans Serif-brings a clean or minimalist look to the text. This font is used for clear and direct
meaning of text such as road signage, building directory or nutrition facts in food packages.
Also, sans serif fonts give a modern look and is used primarily in webpage

Slab Serif - carries a solid or heavy look to text. This font can be used for large advertising
sign on billboards.

• Playbill
Script - draws much attention to itself because of its brush-like strokes. This must be used
sparingly and not to be used in large body text. This font is usually used in wedding
invitation cards or other formal events.

Decorative - caters to a wide variety of emotions such as celebration, fear, horror, etc. or
themes such as cowboys, circus, holidays, summer, kiddie, etc.

Principle in Designing Text
1. Emphasis- refers to the importance or value given to a part of the text-based content.

2. Appropriateness - refers to how fitting or suitable the text is used for a specific audience,
purpose or event.
3. Proximity-refers to how near or how far are the text elements from each other.
4. Alignment-refers to how the text is positioned in the page. This can be left, right, center or
justified.
6. Repetition- concerns with the consistency of elements and the unity of the entire design. This
encourages the use of repeating some typefaces within the page.
7. Contrast-creates visual interest to text elements. It is achieved when two elements are different
from each other
