EXTERNAL
DEVICES
External devices are peripheral devices that are connected to a computer or other devices externally. They
can be used to expand storage capacity, backup data, and transfer files across devices.
TYPES OF External DEVICES
INPUT DEVICES :
An input device is a piece of hardware that allows users to input data or instructions
into a computer system. Input devices translate user actions into electronic signals
that a computer can understand and process.
Examples : Keyboard , Mouse , Scanner , Joystick , etc
KEYBOARD :
A computer keyboard is an input device that allows a
person to enter letters, numbers, and other symbols
(together, called characters) into a computer. It is one
of the most used input devices for computers. Using
a keyboard is often called typing.
MOUSE :
A computer mouse (plural mice, also
mouses) is a hand-held pointing device
that detects two-dimensional motion
relative to a surface.
Scanner :
• An image scanner (often abbreviated to just
scanner) is a device that optically scans images,
printed text, handwriting, or an object and converts
it to a digital image.
• The most common type of scanner used in offices
and in the home is the flatbed scanner, where the
document is placed on a glass window for scanning.
Devices It is INPUT and OUTPUT So, it is same Output.
CD/DVD :
• CD : Compact disc (CD), a molded plastic disc
containing digital data that is scanned by a laser
beam for the reproduction of recorded sound
MONITOR :
A monitor is an electronic device that displays information on a
screen, such as images, text, video, and graphics. It's a computer's
main output device, and works by receiving signals from the
computer's graphics card and interpreting the data to display
it on the screen.
There are 4 primary types of monitors :
1. LCD :
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) is a type of flat panel display which uses liquid
crystals in its primary form of operation. LEDs have a large and varying set
of use cases for consumers and businesses, as they can be commonly found
in smartphones, televisions, computer monitors and instrument panels.
Advantages of LCD Monitor – Sharp image quality, Energy efficient , Glare reduction , Less blue light , high
Lifespan.
2. LED :
LED stands for Light-Emitting Diode monitor, an LED monitor
or LED display is a flat screen, flat-panel computer monitor or
television. It has a short depth and is light in terms of weight.
Advantages of LED Monitor : Less Expensive , Broader Dimming range, Overall more reliable , Higher
Dynamic Contrast ratio , Less environmental impact.
3. OLED :
OLED stands for organic light-emitting diode.
OLED monitors uses a display technology that uses
organic light- emitting diodes to create images.
Advantages of OLED Monitors : Image quality , Fast Response time , Faster Refresh Rate , Lower
Power Consumption , Lighter Weight , etc.
4. CRT :
CRT stands for Cathode Ray Tube.
A Cathode-Ray Tube (CRT) monitor is a type of display device that uses a
vacuum tube and electron guns to display images.
Advantages of CRT Monitors : No Motion Artifacts , Less Costly , Resolution and Aspect Ratio , etc.
Printers :
A printer is a device that transfers text and images from a computer to paper or other
materials. Printers can be connected to a computer directly or indirectly via a network.
Types of Printers :
1. Dot Matrix :
