Achievement Test
Achievement Test
• An achievement test is a type of assessment that is designed to
measure a person's knowledge, skills, or proficiency in a particular
subject or area.
• An achievement test is a test designed to measure the effects of
specific teaching or training in an area of curriculum
• Achievement test, also known as proficiency test, is one which
measures the extent to which a person has acquired or achieved
certain information or proficiency as a function of instruction or
training (Tuckman 1975).
Steps of Achievement test

1. Planning of test
• Objective of the Test
• Determine the maximum time and maximum marks
2. Preparation of a design for the test
• Important factors to be considered in design for the test are.
• Weightage to objectives
• Weightage to content
• Weightage to form of questions
• Weightage to difficulty level
3. Preparation of the blue print
• Blue print is a three-dimensional chart giving the placement of the objectives,
content and form of questions.
4. Writing of items
• The paper setter write items according to the blue print.
• The difficulty level has to be considered while writing the items.
• It should also checked whether all the questions included can be answered
within the time allotted.
• It is advisable to arrange the questions in the order of their difficulty level.
5. Preparation of the scoring key and marking scheme
• In the case of objective type items where the answers are in the form of some
letters or other symbol a scoring key is prepared.
• In the case of short answer and essay type questions, marking scheme is
prepared.
• In preparing marking scheme the examiner has to list out the value points to
be credited and fix up the mark to be given to each value point
6. Preparation of Question-wise Analysis
• It helps to know the strengths and weakness of the test, to tally the question
paper and the blueprint, and to determine the content validity of the test.
Types Of Achievement Test
Standardized Test

A standardized test is a test consisting of carefully selected test items after having
been given to a number of samples under standard conditions.

Oral Test

• Extensively used in lower classes.

• In higher classes, Oral test can be used in science practical examination.

• Viva-voce examination.

• To get immediate feedback from the students on the information provided to


them.
• Essay Test
• Essay tests demand long answers.

• Students has to organise and express ideas in writing clearly and concisely.

• Lot of subjectivity is involved in evaluation of the answer script.

• Extraneous factors like neatness in presentation and good hand writing play a part
Indvidual Achievement Test
1. Academic Achievement Test (Eg. Woodcock-Johnson of Achievement-lll)
• The Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement (WJ-IV) is a widely used set of individually
administered tests designed to assess an individual's academic achievement and
cognitive abilities.
• The Woodcock-Johnson test is currently in its fourth edition (WJ-IV)
2. Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-lll)
• The Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT) is a widely used standardized
assessment tool designed to measure and assess the academic achievement of
individuals, particularly in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, and oral language
• The WIAT-III US edition was published in 2009 for use with those aged 4 till 50 years and
11 months. It includes 16 subtests which is divided into Oral Reading, Math Fluency and
Early Reading Skills.
3. Peabody Individual Achievement Test
• The Peabody Individual Achievement Test is a criterion based survey of an
individual’s scholastic attainment. It can be administered to individuals
between the ages of five and 22 years of age, and returns a grade range
between Kindergarten and grade
