Welcome to the World
of Science!
Let us Recall!
Speed
The time rate of at which an
object is moving along path.

Velocity
The rate and direction of an
object’s movement.
Let us Recall!
Acceleration
is the rate of change of velocity.

Types,
Characteristics,
And Parts of a
Wave
At the end of the discussion, the
students shall be able to:

explain what is wave;

Learning
Objectives determine the types of waves;

identify the parts of waves

“What is a wave?”
“Waves are everywhere.”
Let us Observe!
LET US LEARN!
VIBRATION
• It is a repeated motion and
produced by a back-and-forth
or up-and-down movement of an
object.
• Source of all waves.
LET US LEARN!
WAVE
• A traveling disturbance that
carries energy from one place
to another with or without a
medium.
LET US LEARN!
MEDIUM
• A substance or material that
carries the wave.
WAVE
• can be typified according to the direction of
motion of the vibrating particles with respect
to the direction in which the waves travel.
TRANSVERSE LONGITUDINAL SURFACE
TRANSVERSE WAVE
• A wave in which particles of the
medium move in a direction
perpendicular to the direction
where the wave moves.
LONGITUDINAL WAVE
• A wave in which particles of the
medium move in a direction
parallel to the direction where
the wave moves.
SURFACE WAVE
• Surface waves are combination of
transverse and longitudinal
waves. These move in a circular
pattern as the waves pass by.
THE TYPES OF WAVES

PROPAGATION
WAVE

a medium.

Game Mechanics
• Find and get the treasure chest using the map
provided. You will travel with many challenges.
• There are nine levels, in every level there is a
question for you to answer.
• In every correct answer, you will move closer to
the treasure chest.
• The treasure chest corresponds a prize for all the
students who will participate in treasure hunting.

Odette attaches one end of a slinky to the
top of a table. She holds the other end in
her hand, stretches it to a length, and
then moves her hand faster while keeping
the length of the slinky the same. How
does the wavelength down the slinky
change?

Level 8
Atomic bombs send out a shock wave
when they are detonated. This occurs
because the bomb’s detonation
superheats the air particle nearby, which
cause them to bump into other air
particles that further the wave. What can
most likely be made about the shock
waves of atomic bombs?
