Introduction
In today’s world, automation plays a vital role in improving
efficiency and accuracy in various tasks. Sorting objects by
color and size is a common requirement in many industries,
but manual sorting is labor-intensive and prone to errors. This
project introduces an Automated Object Sorting System that
utilizes simple yet effective sensor technology and servo
mechanisms to sort objects based on their color and size. The
proposed system is cost-effective, scalable, and ideal for
small-scale industrial setups.
Objectives
•This project aims to design and implement an Automated Object Sorting
System that can sort objects based on their color and size.
•Automate the sorting of objects to reduce manual labor.

•Provide a cost-effective and scalable solution for small sorting tasks. This can
also be an ideal small scale industrial setup.
•Utilize readily available sensors and components for ease of replication.

•Ensure the system is flexible for further customization or additional features.

Working Principle
 Object Placement : Objects are manually placed or dropped into a
sensing area, where they remain stationary during detection.
 Detection Process :

Color Detection: The system uses a TCS34725 color sensor to

detect the object’s dominant color (Red, Green, or Blue).
Size Detection: An ultrasonic sensor (e.g., HC-SR04) measures
the height or size of the object by calculating its distance from the
sensor.
Working Principle
Sorting Mechanism : Based on the detected color and size, the system
activates corresponding servo motors.

The servo motors push or guide the object into one of the designated bins
(e.g., Red-Small, Red-Large, Blue-Small, etc.).
Key Steps in Sorting :

Tentative Cost
The estimated cost for this project is around BDT 6200-BDT
7000, depending on the quality and source of components. The
design is intentionally cost-effective, using widely available
components suitable for prototyping and educational projects.
Optional components like an LCD display or 3D-printed parts
could increase costs slightly.
Applications and Future Scope
Applications
• Sorting small objects in factories or workshops.

• Educational tool for teaching automation and sensor integration.

• DIY project for hobbyists interested in robotics and automation.

Future Scopes
• Expand to detect more colors and sizes.

• Integrate a robotic arm for more advanced sorting capabilities.

• Use machine learning algorithms for complex object classification.

• Scale up for industrial applications by replacing Arduino with more advanced

microcontrollers like Raspberry Pi or STM32.
Assumption
•The objects to be sorted are uniform in shape and can be easily detected by
the sensors.
•The sorting categories are predefined and limited to a manageable number

•The system is intended for lightweight objects, as the servo motors used are
not designed for heavy loads.
•The environment is well-lit to ensure accurate color detection by the sensor.
