CONSTRUCTING

A FREQUENCY
DISTRIBUTION
TABLE (FDT)
RONALD H. NACION, DevEdD
A Frequency Distribution
Table (FDT) summarizes
data by showing the number
of observations within
AGENDA specified intervals. This
process organizes raw data
into a format that makes it
easier to analyze trends and
patterns.
Steps to Construct an FDT
1.Collect Raw Data
1.Gather all data points. Ensure accuracy
and completeness.
2.Determine the Number of Classes (k)
1.Use the formula k=1+3.3log⁡n
2.Here, n represents the number of data
points.
3.Round k to the nearest whole number.
3.Calculate the Range
•Find the minimum and maximum values in the dataset.
•Use the formula: Range=Maximum−Minimum
4.Calculate Class Width
•Class width is determined by: Class Width=Range/k
•Round up if necessary to ensure whole numbers.
5.Create Class Intervals
•Start from the minimum value and add the class width to form intervals.
•Ensure intervals do not overlap and cover the entire range of data.
6.Tally Frequencies
•Count how many data points fall into each class interval.
•Record these counts in the table.
7.Construct the Frequency Distribution Table
•List the class intervals alongside their corresponding frequencies.
• clarity for easy reading.
Example:
Raw Data: 16, 17, 30, 41, 36, 28, 37, 13, 47, 18, 46,
32, 43, 15, 25, 26, 8, 7, 24, 30, 17, 38, 41, 24, 32, 18,
33, 28, 12, 45, 28, 10, 37, 22, 30, 35, 29, 35, 25
1.Determine n: There are 39 scores.
2.Calculate k: k=1+3.3log⁡39≈6
3.Find Range:
1.Minimum = 7
2.Maximum = 47
3.Range = 47 - 7 = 40
4. Calculate Class Width: Class Width=40/6≈7
5. Create Class Intervals:
•7 - 13
•14 - 20
•21 - 27
•28 - 34
•35 - 41
•42 - 48
6.Tally Frequencies:
•Count occurrences within each interval.
7. Construct FDT:

Class Interval Frequency

7 - 13 5
14 - 20 6
21 - 27 6
28 - 34 9
35 - 41 9
42 - 48 3
