PRESENTATION

ON
SEARCH ENGINE AND
SEARCH TOOLS
SEARCH ENGINES

• A search engine is a software program that provides information

according to the user query.
• It finds various websites or web pages that are available on the internet
and gives related results according to the search.
COMPONENTS OF SEARCH ENGINE

1.
• Web Crawler
2.
• Database
3.
• Search Interfaces
4.
• Ranking algorithms
• WEB CRAWLER:
Web Crawler is also known as a search engine bot, web robot, or web spider. It plays an essential role
in search engine optimization (SEO) strategy. It is mainly a software component that traverses on the web,
then downloads and collects all the information over the Internet.
Ex- Google bot is the most popular web crawler.

• DATABASE:
The search engine database is a type of Non-relational database. It is the place where all the web
information is stored. It has a large number of web resources. Some most popular search engine
databases are Amazon Elastic Search Service and Splunk.

• SEARCH INTERFACES:
It is an interface between the user and the database. It basically helps users to search for queries
using the database.

• RANKING ALGORITHMS:
The ranking algorithm is used by Google to rank web pages according to the Google search
algorithm.
STAGES IN WORKING OF SEARCH
ENGINES
• Stage 1: CRAWLING
This stage involves scanning the sites and obtaining information about
everything that is contained there: page title, keywords, layout, pages that it
links to. This task is performed by special software robots,
called “spiders” or “crawlers”.

• Stage 11: INDEXING

Indexes are the huge storage facilities in which the copy of each web page
founded by the crawler is stored. This information about web pages is used to
provide answers to users for their queries.
• Stage 111: RANKING AND RETRIEVAL
This is the final stage in which the search engine provides the most useful and relevant answers in a
particular order in response to a search query submitted by the user. Search engines use algorithms to
improve the search results so that only genuine information could reach the users.
ADVANTAGES

results.
SEARCH TOOLS
1. Google
With Google, users can search through a range of categories, including images, videos, news
articles, maps and online stores. Google also has diverse search filters, such as the ability to select
how recent you want your search results to be. Google primarily rates its content based on search
engine optimization (SEO).

2. Bing
Bing is a search engine that Microsoft owns and operates. Visitors can use Bing to search for
different categories of results, such as websites, images, videos and maps. Users can also link their
social media accounts to Bing to make it easier to search for specific posts or other features on
their social networks. Other features include:
 Reward system
 Advanced image search function
 Video previews

3. DuckDuckGo
DuckDuckGo is a comprehensive search engine that offers users a private browsing experience.
When you conduct a search through DuckDuckGo, it doesn't store or track any of your personal
information. Other advantages of DuckDuckGo include:
 One page results
 Minimal ads
 Multiple ways to use
4. Yahoo
Yahoo offers a search engine that's interconnected with some of its other products, including
email, messenger, news and games. The homepage of this search engine has interactive features,
such as letting users check on the weather in their area, browse top news stories or searches and
view images. Visitors can use Yahoo search to look for webpages and other file or data types, like
images or PDFs. Yahoo also sorts its search results into different categories, such as news stories
and videos.

5. Ask
The Ask search engine makes it easy for visitors to look up search terms using natural language.
For example, while some search engines may find it easier to show results for a search term like
"tire replacement," Ask specializes in showing accurate results for search phrases written more
like spoken language, such as "How do you replace a tire?"
This makes Ask a user-friendly search engine for professionals with different ranges of computing
abilities. Other benefits and features of Ask include:
