assertion?
As a term generally use to
refer to statement of fact,
opinion and commonplace
assertion.
There are three
categories of assertion
• Fact
• Opinion
• Commonplace Assertion
Fact is a verifiable
statement. It can be
proven by study or
research
Example:

Water boils at 100°C at


sea level.
Opinion is a personal
judgment based on
facts but it is
debatable and
potentially changeable
Example:

I think reading books is


one of the best ways to
relax and expand your
knowledge.

Commonplace assertion is a
stereotype, oversimplification
or a prejudice which is half-
baked opinion based on
insufficient or unexamined
evidence, but presented as if it
were fact?
Example:

Direction:
The teacher will give a Q-card for
each students, then the teacher will
present a statement, the students
need to raise the Q-card to
participate, each side of the Q-card
has a corresponding letter. Then the
teacher will flash statements; you
just need to tell whether it is fact,
opinion, assertion, or value by
raising your Q-card.

Direction:
The class will be divided into
three groups, then the
teacher will assign a
category of assertion per
group using the given picture
per group. The students need
to provide 3 statements
connected to the picture
based on their assigned
category, after, selected
student will write the answer
on the board.

On a ¼ sheet of paper
formulate two statements for
each category of assertion:

• opinion
• fact
• commonplace Assertion
