Obtaining Today’s Date

• Today’s Date in Excel can be obtained by two methods :


1. Excel Shortcut Key (Ctrl + ;)
2. Today Function (=TODAY())
WORKDAY & NETWORKDAYS Functions in Excel

• We can calculate a workday from a date after a specific no. of days by using
WORKDAY Function

• We can calculate a workday between two dates by using NETWORKDAYS Function


WEEKDAY Function in Excel

• We can use WEEKDAY function to return a number between 1-7 representing the
day of week.
• By default, WEEKDAY returns 1 for Sunday and 7 for Saturday, but this is
configurable.

• WEEKDAY Function is generally not used independently in Excel, but as a part of


other functions for getting meaningful results.

YEAR, MONTH, DAY & DATE Function in Excel

• We can use YEAR, MONTH, DAY functions to return the year, month and day
corresponding to a date in Excel.

• The DATE Function can be used to combine to get a date with Year, Month and Day
as Input.
Difference Between two dates

• The DATEDIF Function can be used to calculate difference between two dates. The
difference may be calculated in terms of Year, Month or Days.

Excel
Obtaining Current Time

• Current Time in Excel can be obtained by two methods :


1. Excel Shortcut Key (Ctrl + Shift + ;)
2. Now Function (=NOW())
Time Formats in Excel

• There are few predefined Time Formats available in Excel, which can be seen here.
Converting Serial No. into Time and vis a versa

• The Time Formats, when formatted as General will show a serial no. Basically it’s a
calculation of Time starting from 1/1/1900 00:00 till specified time. It can be
formatted using Time Formats.
• Similarly, Time can be formatted as a Serial No. by selecting format as General.

SPECIFIED TIME FORMATS


HOUR, MINUTE, SECOND & TIME Function in Excel

• We can use HOUR, MINUTE & SECOND functions to return the Hour, Minute &
Second corresponding to a Time in Excel.

• The TIME Function can be used to combine Hour, Minute & Second as Input to get
a Time.
Time Difference Between two dates with Time

• The Time difference between two dates with time can simply be calculated by
subtraction. It may be formatted as Hours, Minutes and Seconds, if required.
