WHAT IS A NETWORK AUTOMATION

 Network automation is the use of software to automate the configuration, management,

and monitoring of network devices and services. It can help to improve network efficiency,
reliability, and security by reducing the risk of human error and freeing up network
administrators to focus on more strategic tasks.
 Network automation is like teaching your computer to do tasks on your network without
you having to do them manually. It's a way to make your network run more efficiently by
using software to handle things like configuring devices, managing security, and
troubleshooting issues, saving you time and reducing errors.
Network automation involves the following steps:
 1. Configuration: Network automation begins with defining the configuration of the network. This includes specifying the
various components of the network such as routers, switches, servers, and their settings.
 2. Orchestration: Once the network is configured, network automation tools orchestrate the different components to
work together seamlessly. They ensure that devices are properly connected, routing is established, and services are
enabled.
 3. Provisioning: Network automation enables automatic provisioning of network resources. It can automatically allocate
IP addresses, configure VLANs, set up virtual networks, and provision other network services.
 4. Monitoring and Analytics: Network automation tools continuously monitor the network for performance, availability,
and security. They collect data from various devices and analyze it to identify issues, detect anomalies, and provide
insights for optimization.
 5. Troubleshooting and Remediation: When problems occur, network automation tools can help in troubleshooting and
remediation. They can automatically detect and isolate network issues, perform diagnostics, and even apply predefined
remediation actions to resolve problems.
 6. Scaling and Expansion: Network automation facilitates the scaling and expansion of networks. It can automatically
add new devices, configure them, and integrate them into the existing network infrastructure.
HOW NETWORK AUTOMATIONS WORK

 Network automation typically works by using software to interact with network devices and
services through programmatic interfaces. These interfaces allow software to send
commands to devices and receive responses.
 Network automation tools typically use a combination of scripts, templates, and APIs to
automate common network tasks. For example, a network automation tool could be used
to automatically:
 Provision new devices and services
 Configure network devices and protocols
 Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problems
 Deploy security updates and patches
EXAMPLES OF NETWORK AUTOMATION
Here are some examples of network automation in use today
 Automating the provisioning of new network devices:
 A network administrator can use a network automation tool to automatically provision new network devices, such as
routers, switches, and firewalls. This can save time and reduce the risk of errors.
 Automating the configuration of network devices:
 A network administrator can use a network automation tool to automatically configure network devices, such as setting
up VLANs, routing rules, and security policies. This can help to ensure that devices are configured consistently and
correctly.
 Automating the deployment of new network services: A network administrator can use a network automation tool to
automatically deploy new network services, such as VPNs, wireless networks, and SD-WAN. This can help to reduce the
time it takes to roll out new services and improve networkagility.
 Automatingg the monitoring of network devices and services: A network administrator can use a network automation
tool to monitor network devices and services for problems. The tool can automatically send alerts and take corrective
actions, such as restarting devices or changing routing tables. This can help to improve network uptime and reduce the
time it takes to resolve problems.
NETWORK AUTOMATION BENEFITS
1. Saves Time: Network automation does tasks quickly, so people don't have to do them by
hand, saving time.
2. Reduces Mistakes: It helps avoid errors, so the network works smoothly without hiccups.
3. Cuts Costs: By automating tasks, you need fewer people to manage the network, which
saves money.
4. Improves Security: It keeps the network safe by spotting and stopping threats
automatically.
5. Makes Things Easier: Network automation simplifies the job of managing the network,
making it less complicated.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF NETWORK AUTOMATION?
 One of the primary purposes of network automation is to reduce the amount of manual
work that must be completed each time a task needs to be performed. By automating
routine tasks, IT teams can free up their time and resources to focus on more specialized
tasks.
 Another purpose of network automation is to reduce the overall cost of management.
Automation eliminates the need for costly manual labor, as tasks typically take hours and
can now be completed in minutes. This can result in substantial cost savings, especially for
larger organizations.
WHAT MAKES AI IN NETWORK AUTOMATION SO VALUABLE?

AI in network automation is valuable because it can help to:

 Reduce costs: AI can help to reduce the costs associated with network management
by automating tasks that would otherwise be performed by network administrators.
 Improve performance: AI can help to improve network performance by optimizing
network resources and identifying and resolving problems proactively.
 Increase reliability: AI can help to increase network reliability by predicting and
preventing failures.
 Improve security: AI can help to improve network security by identifying and
mitigating threats more effectively.
INTELLIGENT NETWORK AUTOMATION

 A more sophisticated form of intelligent network automation uses machine learning and big
data to determine how best to configure and manage a network to meet specific business
goals. Intelligent networking uses a high-level, centralized view of the entire network to
determine how a network should function to meet these goals, instead of configuring each
port or device individually.
 An intent-based network takes a holistic view of how a business request will affect a
network and offers different solutions to fulfill that request. Intent-based networking is
sought after because network engineers can easily scale the network to meet different
goals and reduce the number of misconfigurations due to human error.
USE OF AI IN NETWORK AUTOMATION

 1. Data Analysis: AI algorithms can analyze large volumes of network data in real-time. They can identify
patterns, anomalies, and trends, helping to monitor network performance, detect issues, and optimize
operations.
 2. Predictive Analytics: AI can use historical and real-time network data to predict potential network failures
or performance degradation. By identifying early warning signs, AI can trigger proactive maintenance actions,
reducing downtime and improving network reliability.
 3. Network Configuration and Provisioning: AI algorithms can automate the process of configuring and
provisioning network devices. They can generate optimal configurations based on network requirements,
policies, and best practices, reducing manual errors and speeding up deployment.
 4. Security and Threat Detection: AI-powered security systems can analyze network traffic patterns, identify
abnormal behavior, and detect potential security threats. They can automatically respond to attacks, block
malicious activities, and provide real-time alerts to network administrators.
 6. Network Optimization and Resource Management: AI can analyze network usage, traffic patterns, and
user behavior to optimize resource allocation. It can dynamically adjust network configurations, prioritize traffic,
and optimize network paths to improve overall performance and user experience.
FUTURE OF NETWORK AUTOMATION

 The future of AI in network automation is very promising. AI is still in its early stages of
development, but it is already being used to automate and optimize many network tasks.
As AI continues to develop, it is likely to play an even greater role in network
automation. Here are a few specific examples of how AI is expected to be used in network
automation in the future:* AI will be used to develop more sophisticated network
monitoring and troubleshooting tools. These tools will be able to detect and resolve
problems more quickly and accurately than current tools.* AI will be used to develop more
intelligent routing and traffic management systems. These systems will be able to optimize
network performance and efficiency in real time.* AI will be used to develop more
automated network security systems. These systems will be able to detect and block
threats more effectively than current systems.
