TECHNICAL SEMINAR

ON
ZIGBEE TECHNOLOGY
PRESENTED BY:-
MOHAMMED ASRAR UDDIN SHAREEF
160921735308
Introduction to Zigbee Technology

• Definition: Zigbee is a wireless communication

standard for low-power, low-data-rate
applications.
• Purpose: Ideal for IoT applications, home
automation, and smart cities.
• Based on: IEEE 802.15.4 standard, supports
short-range, secure, and reliable networking
• Designed For : Wireless Automation & Lower
Data Tasks, Low Power Consumption.
Why Zigbee Technology?
To Understand This In Better Way Let’s Have A
Comparision Between
BLUETOOTH VS ZIGBEE TECHNOLOGY
Zigbee Device Types:

• Zigbee system structure consists of three different types of

devices such as:

›Zigbee Coordinator(ZC)
›Zigbee Router(ZR)
›Zigbee End devices (ZED)
Network Topologies:
• The number of routers ,coordinators and end
devices dependsion the type of network such
as

 Mesh Topology
 Star Topology
 Cluster tree Topology
ARCHITECTURE Of Zigbee
Layered Architecture:
• Physical Layer: Manages the transmission and reception of
raw data bits over the air; for example, setting the radio
frequency at 2.4 GHz for data transmission.
• Media Access Control (MAC) Layer: Controls access to the
communication channel and coordinates data transmission;
for instance, it prevents collisions when multiple devices
attempt to send data simultaneously.
• Network Layer: Handles routing, addressing, and joining of
devices within the Zigbee network; for example, enabling
devices to form a mesh network where messages can hop
between devices.
• Application Support Layer: Makes communication between
applications on different devices by managing data
formatting and service discovery; for example, enabling a
smart bulb to receive commands from a smartphone app.
Key Features of Zigbee:
• Low Power Consumption: Suitable for battery-
operated devices.
• Short Range: Effective within limited distances,
ideal for local networks.
• Mesh Networking: Devices can communicate
directly or relay data, enhancing range and
resilience.
• Security: Includes AES-128 encryption for data
protection.
Applications of Zigbee in Healthcare

• Patient Monitoring:
Remote tracking of vital
signs.
• Remote Health
Management: Healthcare
providers can monitor
patients from a distance,
enhancing care.
Zigbee in Smart Cities

• Smart Grids: Efficient

energy distribution and
consumption.
• Traffic Management:
Real-time data aids in
smoother traffic flow.
• Environmental
Monitoring: Tracks
pollution and other
environmental metrics.
Conclusion
• Summary: Zigbee technology is crucial in
enabling IoT applications across various
domains.
• Future Potential: As IoT and smart
technologies advance, Zigbee’s role is
expected to expand in connectivity and
automation.
