term “system.”

Geosphere/ Lithosphere (Geo/Litho means “land/ earth”):
• This comprises of the inner and outer composition of the earth.
• It includes the mantle, core and all hard land of the earth’s crust/
surface (e.g. physical features, continents, rocks etc).

Biosphere (Bio means “life”):


• This contains all of earth’s living organisms such as: humans, plants,
animals, microorganisms, insects etc).

Hydrosphere (Hydro means “water”:
• This comprises of all sorts of water from fresh, salty or frozen on
the earth’s surface.
• These include: water bodies (e.g. rivers, seas, lakes, oceans etc).

Atmosphere (Atmos means “air”):


• This contains all the air in the earth’s system. It incorporates earth’s
gases, clouds and wind.
