LANGUAGES
There are 22 major languages spoken in India.
Hindi
is spoken by about half of the population of
people. Hindi is the official language of
India. Some of the major languages, are English,
Assamese Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada ,
Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telagu,
Urdu, Kashmiri and Oriya.
DANCE AND MUSIC
DANCE AND MUSIC
India is the home of dance and music There are
various types of dances and
music. But classical and folk dance and music
is appreciated all over.
DANCES OF INDIA
Bharatnatyam, Manipuri, Kathak, Kathakali ,
Mohiniyattam, Odissi and Kuchipudi
are classical dances.
Bharatnatyam is performed in temples and
Kathak is a testimony to the court
of Lucknow of the pleasure- loving Nawabs.
From Odissi to Kuchipudi and from
Manipuri to Ballet, an intricate rhythm- in
temples or in courts, from the
backyards to the great auditoriums. Indian

MUSIC OF INDIYA
There are two types of classical music –
Hindustani music and Carnatic music. The
major rhythms are the tabla, pakhawaj or
mondangam
played to an intricate beat by the artist’s
finger.
Other major instruments areTanpura, Sitar and
Veena . The Harmonium, a keyboard
instrument, and the shehnai is wind
instruments, used at wedding scelebrations.

National Festivals includes the Independence
Day (15 th August), Republic Day
(26 th January) and Gandhi Jayanti (2nd
October).

Religious festivals are the festivals celebrated
by different religions in
India Diwali, Eid, Christmas, Mahaveer
Jayanti, Gurpurubs, Dusshera, Buddha
Purnima, etc.

eat wheat and rice. west to Rajasthan,
it is a desert area where wheat, jowar, corn

bajra are commonly eaten. In the southern and
eastern states, rice is the staple food.

SPICES
Indian food has become popular worldwide. This is
mainly because of the special spices we use in our
food. Some of the common spices are chillies,
cloves, turmeric, pepper, cardamom. These spices
add colours and flavours to the food. Indian food

SWEETS
Indian sweets are famous too. Rasgullas ,
laddoos, barfis, gulab jamuns, mysore paaks,

some popular sweets. You must have enjoyed
sweets in wedding and festivals.
UNITY IN DIVERSITY
UNITY IN DIVERSITY
India is called a country of unity in diversity.
India is a
country where all religions are equally
treated and respected. You can notice
temples, mosques, churches all built within
the range of a kilometre. In India
people believe that if they are together,
nothing can separate them.
