INTRODUCTION
Mathematic is the study numbers, quantities, shapes, structers and
relationships between them. Which involves different branches like
Arithmetic-study of numbers and basic operations,
Algebra-study of variables, equations and fraction,
Geometry-study of shapes, size and position.
Mathematic is essential in the natural
science,engineering,medicine,finance,computer science and the social
science. For all these reasons, mathematic is called as “Queen of all
subject”.
MEANING and DEFINITION
Correlation is a statistical measure that describes
the relationship between two or more variables.
According to Lathrop
”Correlation indicates a joint-relationship
between two variables.”
TYPES OF CORRELATION
1. Incidental correlation
2. Systematic correlation
NATURE OF CORRELATION IN MATHEMATICS
The correlation in mathematics is extended in
four direction:
1.Correlation of mathematics with daily life activities (Home, School,
Profession, Business)
2.Correlation of mathematics with one-another or with different branches of
mathematics (arithmetic and algebra, algebra&trigonome try etc.)
3.Correlation of different topics in the same branch of mathematics (profit
&loss, % &profit & loss)
4.Correlation of mathematics with other study subject (science, social science
and languages)
CORRELATION WITH DIFFERENT
BRANCHES OF MATHEMATICS
Mathematics has a well established correlation within the
different branches of mathematics.
Such as one cannot learn the four fundamental rules of
arithmetic and algebra without having knowledge of integer,
without having elementary knowledge of arithmetic algebra
and geometry, one cannot solve the problem of statistics.
Similarly to learn trigonometry one requires the knowledge
of arithmetic, algebra and geometry. All these branches are
interrelated with each other.
CORRELATION OF DIFFERENT BRANCHES OF
MATHEMATICS IN THE PRESENT KARNATAKA
SAYLLABUS
The KARNATAKA syllabus for mathematics is designed to highlights the
connections and correlation between different branches of mathematics. Here's
an overview of the key correlations:
Primary level(classes 1-5)
1.Numbers,operations and algebra : Builds foundation for arithmetic, algebra
and geometry.
2. Shapes and geometry: develops spatial reasoning, essential for geometry and
measurements.
3.Measurement;connects numbers, operation and geometry
Middle school level(classes 6-8)
1. Algebra and geometry: introduces variables, equation and graphing,
linking to geometry concepts
2. Geometry and Trignometry:basic concepts,tiangles
3. Arithmetic and probability: properties of numbers
4. Statistics and probability: basic concepts
High school level(classes 9-10)
1. Algebra and geometry: advanced coordinate geometry
2. Trigonometry and algebra: trigonometric equations
3. Number theory and algebra: advanced number systems
4. Statistics and probability: conditional probability
5. Geometry and mensuration: surface area, volume
An illustration to show how algebra, geometry and
arithmetic can be correlated to one another is given below:
Algebra: Expansion of the identity
Geometry:
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the Karnataka mathematic syllabus for
classes (1-10) provides a comprehensive and
interconnected framework for learning mathematics .
It include,interconnectedness,problem-solving emphasis,
real-world application, conceptual focus and progressive
difficulty.
This comprehensive syllabus provides a solid foundation
for mathematical excellence
