Definition and
classification
1. Modifier : Modifier means to give
extra information about some thing.

2. For example: A wise man like him


cannot make such a great mistake.
3. Modifier is of two types:

Adjective/ adjective phrase/prepositional
phrase/adjective clause

 An adjective is something which tells


us something about noun or
pronoun.
 For example : In this hot weather ,
we must drink enough water to keep
our health fit.
 The girl in white sharee is my sister
 The girl who is wearing
 The man with the dog came here.
 He was wearing a dark brown suit
Participle phrase vs
prepositional phrase
I saw a sleeping man on the street.
I need a decorated house.

 The girl, wearing bule dress is my


sister.
 The book published in 1993 is my
favourite.

I saw a boy who was very tall and


handsome .I asked him to return my bag
but he refused to return that bag.

 I REACHED THERE AT 10 PM SAFELY

Determiner & its
classification
 Determineris an adjective which
comes before a noun and limits the
meaning of that noun in some way.

Adverb/ adverbial/ adverbial
phrase/ adverbial clause
 An adverb is something that modifies a verb,
adjective or another adverb in a sentence.
 He is very handsome.( adverb modifying adjective)
 He talks slowly. ( adverb modifying verb)
 He talks very slowly.( adverb modifying adverb)
 Types of adverb
 I will go home tomorrow( adverb of time)( when)
 He was walking on the street ( adverb of place)(
 where) I went Chittagong .
 She was shouting very loudly( adverb of manner)

 I visit him twice a week. ( adverb of frequency )( how
often)
Adverbials

 An adverbial is a word , phrase or


clause which modifies a verb. An
adverbials can be a noun phrase,
prepositional phrase or a clause.
 We met that afternoon.
 We met in the café
 We met because we needed to talk.
 The people of Bangladesh are poor
Adverbial phrase
A phrase that collectively modifies a verb,
adjective, or another adverb in a sentence
is adverbial phrase.
 I ran as fast as possible
 You tried hard and soul to win the match
 Adverbial infinitive phrase: ( t0 + v1)
 The man went there to see him .
 Adverbial prepositional pharse: I reached
there at 5 pm.
 She sang in a beautiful tone.
 The girl in blue dress is my sister
