File Management
■ File management helps you to organize and keep track of your files in the computer.
■ There are thousand of file in the computer , very file has a name called filename.
– Name
– Format
– Size
– Data
Files
■ All the work that we do in computer is stored in the form of file.
■ File is a collection of data and information.
■ A file can be document file when you write in it.
■ A file can be picture file when you draw and colour in it
■ Every file has its own unique name. No two file with same name can be saved at same location in the
computer.
■ Computer represents files with icons.
■ Types of files:
– Document file
– Spreadsheet files
– Image files
– Audio/Video files
Folders
■ Files may be organized into folders.
■ A similar group of files saved together under a common name is called a folder.
■ There can not be two folder with same name at one location.
Subfolders
■ Folders contain files, but some folders contain additional folders, which we call
subfolders.
■ It is helpful to organize files and folders that are stored in hard disk of computer.
■ The main function of file explorer is to browse, open and manage the files and

Address bar
Right Pane
■ Address bar indicates the location on your hard drive that is currently being viewed.
■ Left hand side there is a navigation pane. This can be used as a way of quickly
jumping between your libraries and favorite folders.
■ The right pane displays the content of the folder that is selected.
■ There are two signs, expand [>] and collapse[ v ], in front of a disk drive or folder
name.
File Explorer
■ A [>] indicates that the folder contains
subfolders. When we click [>], it
shows the sub folders inside and the
same time the [>] sign changes to [V]
sign.
■ Large Icons or extra Large Icons: The images on folder icon are displayed in
Thumbnail view. It enables the users to identify the contents of the folder quickly.
■ Medium sized icon view: display file and folder as small icons. The file name is
displayed under the icon.
■ List view: display content as list of file or folders name preceded by small icon
■ Detail view or content view: give us detail information about files including name ,
type size, and modified date.
Selecting File and Folders
■ When you want to work with any file we have select that file.
■ If we want to select multiple file first select one file and Press and hold down the
Ctrl key and click each file you want to select.
■ When we delete any file/folder, it goes into Recycle Bin. So if we want to delete file
permanently you have to delete it from Recycle Bin.
■ Do not delete any Windows 10 System files otherwise computer may develop a problem.
■ Steps:

■ Or you can press Delete button from Keyboard after selecting that file
Restoring A Deleted File
■ File that we delete goes into Recycle Bin, where the files stays for a few days or a
few weeks, depending on how often you empty the bin or how full the folder is.
■ We can restore file that is there in Recycle Bin to its original location.
