INTRODUCTION

•It may be interesting to know that losses caused to

the industries due to fire have been much more severe
than all crimes combined together. There can be
nothing more devastating than fire. It has been taking
a heavy toll of valuable property and human lives.A
tiny spark may become a raging valley of flames and
transform the entire industrial complex into a
towering inferno. A little carelessness in the handling
of frayed cables carrying high voltages, combustible
gases and inflammable materials may spark off a
major catastrophe. A small spark from a
malfunctioning electrical system may play havoc with
the entire storage in the tank farm area besides
causing loss of machinery, building and human lives.
FIRST AID FIRE FIGHTING TRAINING

OBJECTIVE
•To make our plant fire proof.
•To minimize the loss of human life
& property.
•To reduce the cost of fire fighting.
FIRST AID FIRE FIGHTING TRAINING

•Introduction of fire & triangle of fire

•Types of fire
• Methods of extinguishing
• First aid fire fighting appliances/ types of fire
extinguishers.
• Introduction with fire equipments viz. delivery
hoses,branches,couplings etc
•Actuation of fire alarm.
•Your role in case of fire.
Introduction of fire
Fire is a Chemical Reaction in Which
Fuel and Oxygen Take Part at a Certain
Temperature and Produce Heat,
Light,smoke,ash Etc.
FUEL + OXYGEN  LIGHT+
HEAT+SMOKE+ASH etc.
It is well known that fire is caused due to the
interaction of the following factors.
(a) Fuel
(b) Oxygen
(a) Heat
Fire starts by voluntary or involuntary ignition. It
may arise out of a spark due to short circuit, a
lighted cigarette, match-stick, heat arising from
rising temperature, friction of objects etc.
The success of fire extinguishing lies in
eliminating one of the constituent factors
mentioned above.
TRIANGLE OF FIRE
Class A Fire
• In class ‘A’ fire, normally the fuel consists of wood,
textile, paper, garbage, plastic, rubber and such other
common material.
• In case of class ‘A’ fires where fuel is involved is
normal combustible material , water jet or fog is used for
extinguishing the fire.
Class B Fire
• In the second category fire consumes petroleum products,
grease, paints, solvents, cleansing fluids, alcohol
naphtha,petrol,diesel etc.
• In class ‘B’ fire, where the fuel is highly inflammable
material, dry powder and foam extinguishers are used.
Class C Fire
• This class of fire involves gases under
pressure like LPG,natural gas, CNG etc.
Class D Fire
• Metals fire like magnesium, titanium,
zirconium, sodium and potassium are class
‘D’ fire.
• This generally occurs during
manufacturing/refining processes.
Electrical Fires
• According to present day ideas, electrical fires are not
considered to constitute any class. Fire involving or
started by electrical equipment must be a class of fire
A,B or C.
• The normal procedure to fight such fires is to cut off the
electric current and use an extinguishing method
suitable to the material on fire.
• Classification of fires is very important in choosing the
correct types of fire extinguishers and safety appliances.
Method of Extinguishing
• 1 Starvation method

• 2 Cooling

• 3 Blanketing or smothering
Type of Extinguishers
• Water type Extinguisher
• Chemical/Mechanical foam extinguisher
• DCP Extinguisher
• CO2 Extinguisher
Introduction with fire equipments viz.
delivery hoses,branches,couplings etc

• Delivery hose
1. Permaline
2. RRL
ACTUATION OF FIRE ALARM
MANUAL CALL POINT(MCP)
YOUR ROLE IN CASE OF FIRE

• AS FIRST AID FIRE FIGHTER

• PROMPT INFORMATION TO FIRE
STATION
• ASSISTING FIRE STAFF IN
COMBATING MAJOR FIRE
Caution & care
• Emergency always strike suddenly, without
warning. One moment everything is fine,
the next someone is involved in a serious
accident. Victims include all ages from tiny
children to elderly folk.
Accidents are likely to occur at any time
and one of your loved ones may be
involved.
