Abstract
• This project presents an 8x8x8 LED cube, a 3D
display system comprising 512 individually
addressable LEDs, capable of rendering complex
visualizations, animations, and interactive patterns.
• The cube is built using a modular architecture,
powered by a USB connection, and can be
programmed using Arduino.
• The cube has various applications in data
visualization, and gaming, offering a unique
platform for creative expression and innovative
experiences.

Introduction

The 8x8x8 LED cube is a mesmerizing 3D display system that


combines art, technology, and interactivity to create a
captivating visual experience. With 512 individually
addressable LEDs, this cube offers a unique platform for
creative expression, innovative visualization, and immersive
interaction, making it an ideal platform for showcasing
innovative ideas and pushing the boundaries of interactive
design in various fields such as art, education, and
entertainment.

Objectives:

Components Required:
Electronics:
• 512 LEDs (8x8x8 = 512)
• 64 shift registers (e.g., 74HC595)
• 64 transistors (e.g., 2N3904)
• 64 resistors (e.g., 1kΩ)
• 1 voltage regulator (e.g., 5V or 3.3V)
• 1 microcontroller (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or ESP32)
• 1 power supply (e.g., wall adapter or battery pack)
• 1 voltage regulator (e.g., 5V or 3.3V) for power supply

Structural Components:
• 1 acrylic or glass cube enclosure (8x8x8 cm)
• 64 LED holders or sockets
• Wire (e.g., 20 AWG)
• Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Optional Components:
• 1 USB cable
• 1 breadboard
• Jumper wires
• Resistors and capacitors for filtering
and decoupling
• A button or switch

Budget for project:
• LEDs: upto ₹1,500 (depending on the quality and source)
• Electronics (A6276EA LED driver chips, transistors, resistors, capacitors,
etc.): ₹1,500 - ₹3,000
• Arduino board: ₹1,000 - ₹2,500
• Perfboard, IC sockets, hookup wire, solder, and other components: ₹1,000
- ₹2,000
• Old computer fan, floppy controller cable, and power supply: upto ₹500
Wood for the LED soldering: ₹500 - ₹1,000
