“AWARENESS
AND LEVEL OF SATISFACTION OF
STUDENTS WITH GUIDANCE SERVICES AT UNIVERSITY OF EASTERN PANGASINAN” CHAPTER 1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Education stands as a crucial domain that demands widespread focus and dedication across the nation. This assertion underscores the significance of prioritizing education and ensuring its advancement and enhancement throughout the country (Educational Process, 2021). Education is a fundamental human right. It also a doctrine in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights from the United Nations. . The United Nations also hold that higher education should be accessible to everyone (Sadulski,2023) BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Students should get adequate support to study without facing any challenges (Parle, 2022). In these kinds of problems, the Guidance and Counseling Services can be helpful for this.
Guidance and Counseling is a crucial concern today
to aid the educational, vocational, and psychological potentials of the students for optimum achievement and adequate adjustment in the varied life situations (Madrigal, et al 2020). BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Guidance services are defined as a group of services to individuals to assist them in securing knowledge and skills needed in making plans and devices in interpreting life. (Nizami Rahila,2020).
Guidance and Counseling is a crucial concern today
to aid the educational, vocational, and psychological potentials of the students for optimum achievement and adequate adjustment in the varied life situations (Madrigal, et al 2020). THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK This study was based primarily on Bandura’s Social Cognitive Career Theory, Rogers’ Person Centered Theory and Vygotsky’s Social Learning Theory. This also incorporated with biblical statements to demonstrate that the presence of guidance from an authoritative figure yields favorable results. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK The Person-centered Theory proposed by Carl Roger is also referred to as "Client centered therapy" It provides humanistic approach towards guidance and counseling. This theory gives attention in making. the individual to be the center of therapeutic process to attain their self- actualization and personal growth. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK Social Learning Theory introduced by psychologist Albert Bandura, proposed that learning occurs through observation, imitation, and modeling and is influenced by factors such as attention, motivation and attitudes. In the Biblical perspective, guidance is a recurring
theme, emphasizing the importance of seeking God's direction in all aspects of life. Proverbs 3:5-6 urges believers to trust in the Lord with all their hearts and lean not on their own understanding, acknowledging Him in all their ways so He can direct their paths. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
Psalm 32:8 assures that God will instruct and teach,
guiding the way we should go.
Isaiah 30:21 reaffirms this promise, stating, "Whether
you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.'" Ultimately, seeking God's guidance through prayer, Scripture, and wise counsel leads to a life aligned with His purpose and will. THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK According to Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” This verse mentions a duty given to parents: "Train up a child in the way he should go.”
The Bible emphasizes the importance of seeking
counsel from wise individuals (Proverbs 11:14) and offering support and encouragement to one another (1 Thessalonians 5:11). STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM 1. What is the level of awareness of the Students with the Guidance Services offered by the University Eastern Pangasinan along: a. Appraisal/Inventory Service; b. Information Service ; c. Counseling Service ; d. Placement Service ; e. Follow-up Service ; f. Testing Service ; g. Research and Evaluation Service ; and h. Referral Service? STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
2. What is the level of satisfaction of students with the
guidance services offered by the University Eastern Pangasinan?
3. Is there is a significant relationship between the level
of awareness and level of satisfaction of student of UEP? HYPOTHESIS
There is no significant relationship between the level of
awareness and level of satisfaction.
There is a significant relationship between the level of
awareness and level of satisfaction. SCOPE AND DELIMITATION This study focuses on the awareness and level of satisfaction of students with guidance services at the University of Eastern Pangasinan. Out of 10,511 total number of students at the UEP, 376 students were used as a sample in conducting the survey. The respondents will consist of: eighty-five (85) students in College of Hospitality Management (CHM), eleven (11) students in College of Engineering (CE), sixty-five (65) students in College of Teacher Education (CTE), sixty (60) students in College of Accountancy and Business Administration (CABA), eight (8) students in College of Midwifery (CM), fifty-five (55) students in College of Information Technology (CIT), and ninety-two (92) students in College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE). SCOPE AND DELIMITATION The data gathering conducted via google forms. The study was limited to the level of awareness and to the level of satisfaction with guidance service offered by the institution. Other variable not indicated were not included in the study. DEFINITION OF TERMS 1. AWARENESS - is the quality or state of being aware: Knowledge and understanding that something is happening or exists (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).
In this study, it refers to the
students' understanding and knowledge of the guidance services available at UEP. DEFINITION OF TERMS 2. GUIDANCE - It defined as a group of services to individuals to assist them in securing SERVICES knowledge and skills needed in making plans and devices in interpreting life. (Nizami Rahila, 2020).
- In this study, this refers to the Guidance
Services offered at University of Eastern Pangasinan. These services may include Appraisal/Inventory Service, Information Service, Counseling Service, Placement Service, Follow-up Service, Testing Service, Research and Evaluation Service, Referral Service DEFINITION OF TERMS 3. LEVEL OF - It is a level of fulfillment of a need SATISFACTION or want (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).
In this study, it pertains to the
students' overall satisfaction with the guidance services provided at UEP. DEFINITION OF TERMS 4. STUDENTS - The people who attends a School (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).
In this study, specifically referring to
the students at University of Eastern Pangasinan. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY TO THE STUDENTS - They offer individual counselling to help students resolve personal or interpersonal problems. They may also offer small group counselling to help students enhance listening and social skills, learn to empathize with other, and find social support through healthy peer relationships. For students who are otherwise unable to access mental health services, school counselors provide support at no cost. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY TO THE SCHOOL - They creating a healthy and positive school environment by promoting positive development because guidance counselors on promoting student’s positive development. They help students build self-esteem, resilience and positive attitudes towards learning and life in general and also help to improve the educational programs. Their insights can lead to changes that crated a more effective learning environment. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY TO THE GUIDANCE OFFICE - One of the biggest benefits of guidance and counseling in schools from a well-trained and effective school counselor is in the way they may be able to help prepare students for their academic, career, and social challenges through relating their academic success with the potential success of their future lives. SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY TO THE FUTURE RESEARCHERS - The researcher can also gain in the significance in this study. They would improve their skill, knowledge in engaging research.
