INTRODUCTION
• Spectroscopy is a scientific discipline, which was originated with Isaac Newton’s experiments
which involves the dispersion of visible light using prism, it is also referred as optics.
• At past spectroscopy focused specially on the study of visible light and its properties such as color .
• After the work of James Clerk Maxwell, the scientific advancement occurred which highlight the
significance of electromagnetic spectrum in UV .
• Then spectroscopy became the branch of science which gives the principle of interaction between
matter and electromagnetic radiation .
• Advancement allows simultaneous determination of multiple analytes in a mixture without prior
separation, which can be advantageous for complex samples where traditional method fall short.
• Due to development in the dosage form this technique is very advantageous for the simultaneous
estimation of synthetic and herbal drug combination.
• Multicomponent formulation refers to a pharmaceutical strategy that combines two or more active
ingredients and/or excipients in a single dosage from.
• This approach can offer several benefits, including improves therapeutic efficacy, enhanced patient
compliance, and optimized pharmacokinetic profile.
• This method was developed as per the ICH guideline.
• Developed method was found to be more simple, accurate, precise, and economic as compared to
other spectrophotometric method thus can be used for multidose formulation .
• UV spectroscopy method is used for routine analysis of drug combination. This method always
follows Beer- Lambert law for the rapid and reproducible data.
AIM AND OBJECTIVE
• Aim:
• The main aim of this review is to explore the application of UV spectroscopic method used to
determine or estimate the concentration of multiple component present in single formulation.
• Objective:
• To find out the historical methods and transformation of analysis using UV spectroscopy.
• To define fundamental principle, mechanisms and application of multicomponent analysis using
UV spectroscopy.
METHODOLOGY
• Search Strategy: Electronic database are used for systematic search
strategy including Google scholar, PubMed, search phrase include
multicomponent analysis, Multidose formulation, UV spectrophotometric
analysis etc.
• Inclusion and exclusion criteria: studies were included if they meet the
following requirements : pharmaceutical multidose formulation, UV
spectroscopy analysis, they were published in English language, they
were freely accessible in full text.
• Interpretation: the findings were interpreted and discussed in the
context of the objective of the review paper.
PRELIMINARY FINDINGS
In this review we came to know about different domain of UV spectroscopy for multiple
pharmaceutical and herbal formulation, various methos are used for the analysis they are:
• Simultaneous equation method
• Q-absorbance method
• Geometric coefficient method
• Area under curve method
• Difference spectroscopy
Recent incorporation of chemometric techniques in UV spectroscopic analysis has widen
its scope for multicomponent analysis.
FUTURE WORK
• Till date I have completed reviewing many articles which explain the principle
of multicomponent analysis they are
• Simultaneous equation method
• Q-absorbance method
• Geometric coefficient method
• Area under curve method
• Difference spectroscopy
• In future my planning is to collect many article for each method which is
highlighting the method development for UV analysis of multidose formulation.
DISCUSSION
• UV spectroscopy stands out as a powerful tools for multicomponent
analysis due to its precision, efficiency and adaptability.
• Future advancement in chemometrics methods and data processing are
expected to further enhance its capabilities, making it even more
robust against matrix effects and expanding its application range.
• My review supports the continued use and development of UV
spectroscopy in multicomponent analysis, highlighting its critical role
in various scientific and industrial application.
