it. It is a way of becoming aware of the hazards
involved in doing the job and taking action to prevent
an injury.
⮚ The JSA process is suitable for different trades doing
different tasks and need not require enormous amounts
of time or use endless pieces of paper.
Job Safety Analysis steps:

1. Document the activity

2. Identify the hazards
3. Document the control measures
4. Identify who is responsible
5. Monitor and review.
Implement and monitor procedures for
identifying hazards, assessing and
controlling risks
When

⮚ When changes to the workplace are implemented which

will include instances such as:

o Before the premises are used for the

first time – especially after any
alterations.
o Before and during the installation or
alteration of any plant or equipment.
o Before changes to work practices are
introduced
o When any new information relating
to health and safety risk becomes
Areas where hazards could
be found:
⮚ Physical environment
⮚ Plant
⮚ Working practices
⮚ Security issues.
Effectiveness
⮚ After we have had solutions put in place to correct any problems, that is
not the end of your job.
⮚ The solution must be monitored closely to ensure effectiveness.
⮚ If it is proven to be ineffective, then more work must be undertaken to
solve any inconsistencies.
Implement and monitor health, safety
and security training
Training could take the form of any of
the following possibilities:
⮚ Coaching or mentoring in safe work practices.
⮚ Formal training programs in safe work practices at a TAFE college or one
of the many Private Providers of training in all areas.
⮚ Work health and safety policy and procedures induction, normally done
before the person starts work.
⮚ Representation on the work health and safety committee.
Make certain of the following:
⮚ Staff attending the training are covered on the floor by another staff
member. Failure to do this could inadvertently cause another problem
due to short staffing
⮚ Ensure the person to conduct the training is available at the time of the
training.
⮚ Ensure that all equipment, notes etc that are required are available for
reference.
Effectiveness of Training

⮚ Following any training it is imperative to monitor the

improvement in the way people carry out their duties
using the correct procedures/methods, not only to
ensure they do things correctly but also to gauge the
effectiveness of the training that was conducted.
Maintain work health and safety
records and reports
Examples of various work health
and safety records/reports will
include:
⮚ Consultation documentation
⮚ Hazard identification
⮚ Incident and accident notification to work health and safety regulatory

⮚ Risk control actions.
Data and Reports

⮚ All the information we gather from records should be

used to improve our performance overall in the
workplace, but more importantly, to ensure accidents
and injuries are eliminated as much as possible.
⮚ All statistics should be
summarised and the matters
referred to management at
appropriate levels.
