ABSTRACT

• This Mini project presents significantly improved results of an existing 12 switches and 3 DC sources
multilevel inverter topology to produce great perfection in the seven level output voltage waveform.
• The major impact of the improved results is the reduction in total harmonic distortion (THD).
For this, The 7 level H-Bridge inverter is proposed with different PWM Techniques.
• The topology that used for simulation of phase disposition(PD), Phase Opposition Disposition (POD),
Alternate Phase Opposition Disposition (APOD) techniques.
• Multilevel Inverters today present a viable solution for high dynamic performance and power quality
seeking applications.
INTRODUCTION

Main Features:
• Ability to reduce the voltage stress on the each power device due to the utilization of multiple
levels of DC bus
• Even at low switching frequencies, smaller distortion and multi level inverter AC side
waveform can be achieved (With stepped modulation Technique)
• The main MLI circuit Topologies-
1. Diode clamped inverter
2. Flying capacitor inverter
3.Cascaded H-Bridge inverter
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION

• As Conventional multilevel inverters (MLI) required wide variety of capacitors, diodes,

electricity switches and input sources.
• To overcome this draw back, The single phase MLI can be employed.
• This MLI includes less switches , diodes and capacitors with less THD.
• Cascaded H-Bridge inverter reduces the complexity of circuit layout.
• As, MLI simulation results we increase the voltage level of inverter, the harmonics will
reduced . By the use of different PWM Techniques.
• In this project the 7 Level H-Bridge inverter with different PWM Techniques are simulated in
MATLAB software.
PROPOSED PWM TECHNIQUES

• Phase Disposition:
Phase disposition PWM has carriers in same phase above and below zero reference
line. All the carriers are in same phase in this method of PWM .
• Phase opposition disposition:
In this the carrier signal above zero reference are in-phase but phase shifted by 180
degrees from those carrier signals which come zero reference.
• Alternate phase opposition disposition:
In this Technique, each carrier signal is phase shifted by 180 degrees from the
adjacent carrier signal.

conclusion

• Multi level inverter technology is continuously gaining importance for low, medium and high
power applications.
• This project is made to improve the performance of the inverter which can be seen in
Harmonic Analysis done by successfully.
• Minimum THD is obtained by APOD of H-Bridge inverter , which is significantly less than
the conventional topology.
• However , the continuous technological advancements and the emerges of various industrial
applications.
• This multi level inverter gives news challenges and opportunities that would motivate for the
further development.
