TOPIC:
MULTIPLE COMPUTER VIRUS SYSTEM
PRESENTED BY: HAMANA (164)

Introduction to
multiple computer
virus system
• A computer virus is a type of malware that attaches itself
to a program or file. A virus can replicate and spread
across an infected system and it often propagates to other
systems, much like a biological virus spreads from host
to host. Once a virus has infected a system, it can attach
to other programs or documents, modify or destroy them,
or control how the computer or other devices behave.
• What does a computer virus do?
What happens if you turn off the computer
When you turn off the computer, the virus's
removed from computer’s memory, but not from
the file or disk. So, the next time you use your
computer, the virus program is activated again. It
may then attach itself to more programs or files.
WHAT A VIRUS CANNOT DO?

It cannot infect files on write-protected discs, such as CD-ROMs.

1. It cannot infect computer hardware such as monitors and keyboards. It only infects software.

• Types of
multimedia
computer
virus :
1. Image Viruses:
What They Do: Hide in image files like JPEGs or PNGs.
Example: A virus that hides in a JPEG picture and infects your computer when you open
the image.
2. Audio and Video Viruses:
What They Do: Hide in music or video files.
Example: A virus that hides in an MP3 song and infects your computer when you play the
music.
3. Macro virus:

What They Do: Hide in documents that use macros, like Word or Excel files.

Example: The “Melissa” virus, which infects Word documents and spreads when you open
the document.

4. Script Viruses:

What They Do: Use scripts (small programs) in web pages or emails to infect your
computer.
• Example: The “ILOVEYOU” virus, which spreads through an email attachment and
infects your computer when you open the attachment.
5. Browser Exploit Viruses:

What They Do: Infect your computer when you visit a compromised website.

Example: A virus that infects your computer just by visiting a website with a hidden virus
in a video.

6. Document Viruses:

What They Do: Hide in documents with embedded multimedia like videos or images.

Example: A virus in a PDF file that infects your computer when you open the PDF.
7. Embedded Code Viruses:

What They Do: Hide malicious code inside

multimedia files.
• Example: A virus hidden in the metadata of an
MP4 video that infects your computer when you
play the video.

• Common method
of spreading:
- Social media platforms: Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and
LinkedIn are widely used to spread information. They allow for quick and widespread
dissemination of messages to a large audience. Users can share posts, videos, and links to
reach a broad range of people with varying interests.
- Word of mouth: Word of mouth involves people sharing information verbally with
others. It is a powerful and personal way of spreading messages as individuals tend to trust
recommendations from friends, family, and colleagues. Word of mouth can lead to organic
growth and credibility for the information being Shared.
- Advertisements: Advertisements use various channels such as television, radio, print media, and online
platforms to reach a target audience. They are designed to capture attention, convey a message effectively,
and persuade viewers to take action. Advertisements play a significant role in promoting products, services,
events, and ideas.

- Public events: Public events such as conferences, seminars, workshops, and community gatherings provide
opportunities to engage with a live audience. These events offer a platform to share information, interact with
attendees, and create a memorable experience. Public events help in building relationships, networking, and
fostering discussions on specific topics.
These methods play crucial roles in spreading information effectively and reaching a diverse audience.
EXPLAIN HOW MULTIMEDIA VIRUS SPREAD
THROUGH MULTIMEDIA FILES AND INTERNET?

Multimedia viruses spread through multimedia files and the internet by

embedding themselves within files like images, videos, audio, or documents.
When a user downloads or opens an infected multimedia file, the virus can
execute and infect the user’s device. These viruses can also spread through the
internet via malicious websites, email attachments, or file-sharing platforms.
Once a device is infected, the virus can replicate itself and spread to other files
on the device or across networks, potentially causing harm to the system or
stealing sensitive information. It’s crucial to have updated antivirus software
and be cautious when downloading files from unknown sources to prevent the
spread of multimedia viruses.
HEIGLIGHTING COMMON TRANSMISSION
METHOD ?
Sure, here are the common transmission methods are given below:

- Email attachments: Viruses can spread through email attachments when users
unknowingly download and open infected files attached to emails.
• - Infected websites: Visiting malicious websites can lead to the automatic download of
viruses onto your device. These websites may prompt users to click on links or download
files that contain harmful malware.
• These transmission methods can facilitate the spread of viruses through multimedia files
and the internet.

• Impact on
computer:
Multimedia viruses, also known as malware, can have severe impacts on computers,
including:

1. Data Corruption: Viruses can alter, delete, or corrupt files, leading to loss of
important data, documents, and multimedia content.

2. System Slowdowns : Malware can consume system resources, causing slow

performance, lag, and crashes, making it difficult to use the computer.
• 3. Privacy Breaches: Viruses can spy on user activity, steal personal information,
and compromise sensitive data, such as login credentials and financial information
4. Security Vulnerabilities: Malware can exploit weaknesses in software and hardware, leaving
the system vulnerable to future attacks.

5.Unwanted Behavior: Viruses can display unwanted ads, install unwanted software, and
modify system settings without user consent.

6. Data Theft: Malware can steal sensitive data, such as credit card numbers, personal photos,
and business secrets.
7. System Crashes: Severe malware infections can cause system crashes, leading to data loss
and hardware damage.
8. Compromised Security: Viruses can disable security software and firewalls, leaving the
system exposed to further attacks.
• To protect against these risks, it’s essential to install and regularly update antivirus
software, avoid suspicious downloads and links and practice safe computing habits.

• To protect your
computer from
multiple virus:
TO PROTECT YOUR COMPUTER FROM MULTIPLE
VIRUSES,YOU CAN FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

1. Use Antivirus software: Make sure you have reliable antivirus software Installed on your
computer’s firewall to add an extra layer of protection against incoming threats, including
multimedia viruses.

2. Update Your Operating System: Keep your operating system up to date with the latest
security patches. This helps to protect your computer from vulnerabilities that viruses can exploit.
3. Be Cautious with Downloads: Avoid downloading multimedia files from untrustworthy
sources. Always download from reputable websites to reduce the risk of getting infected with a
viruses.
4. Enable Firewall: Activate your computer’s firewall to add an extra layer of protection against
incoming threats, including multimedia viruses.
5. Scan External Devices: Before transferring multimedia files from external devices like USB
drives or external hard drives, scan them with antivirus software to prevent any potential viruses
from infecting your computer.
6. Educate Yourself: Be cautious when opening email attachments or clicking on links in emails or
messages, especially from unknown sources. Multimedia viruses can also spread through email
attachments.
7. Enable Automatic Updates: Set your antivirus software to update automatically so that it can
stay current with the latest virus definitions and provide better protection.
