PARAMETERS UNIT

Wind Speed m/sec

Wind Speed sensor is also known as Anemometer. The sensor that we

have in our product list is a three cup anemometer where there are 3
cups that rotate and gives the reading. So careful handling is needed. If
the spindle of the rotating part is bend then the sensor is irreparable.

There are option of 4 output of the sensor which is determined by the

Rain Sensors
(Parameters covered and Models)
PARAMETERS UNIT

Rainfall (cumulative) mm

Rainfall (daily) mm
[Optional according to requirement]

Rainfall sensors also known as rain gauge is an instrument that is used for measuring Rainfall.
There are three principal technologies for recording continuous rainfall.
1. Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge: In this type of Rain gauge, Rainfall is collected in a funnel and the water is directed
to the tipping spoon which is connected to a magnet. The magnet makes and breaks contact with the reed switch
which gives the pulse output. Our MBMet-200 is in RND and is yet to release. We use Barani Design MeteoRain
200 Compact.
2. Piezoelectric Rain Sensor: It senses the rain by the change in voltage due to vibration created by water droplet
over a metallic surface. This sensor gives output in RS485/4-20mA and is used very less due to high cost. We have
our own MBMet-200P model to cater the need.
3. Radar Based Rain sensor: It senses rain intensity by the change in frequency of the reflected UHF waves. This
technology is also costly and is generally avoided by clients.
MeteoRain 200 Compact
1. The rain gauge has 200cm Orifice area
2. Per tip of the spoon, 0.2mm of rainfall is added to the previous value.
3. Just like energy of Power meters, the rainfall value do not reduce in value. Rather it is always incremental.
4. The Rain Gauge is sent with Bird spike. The bird spike prevents birds from sitting on the sensor.
5. Occasional maintenance is required to check if the funnel is clear of any debris.

Checking the Sensor for output:

6. Set Multimeter in Resistance
7. Resistance will switch between 1 Kilo Ohm and 1 Mega Ohm when water is poured. You may remove the
funnel and toggle the spoon. You will see the same result.

Cloud Detector
(Parameters covered and Models)
PARAMETERS UNIT

Cloud Cover Factor Okta

There are 3 types of cloud detector

1. Ceilometer: it is a laser based cloud cover sensor. It is a very costly device. It gives high accuracy and is an active cloud
cover detector. It is mainly used in boundary layer research and cloud analysis. It gives high precision data even size of
water droplets in the cloud upto 7 levels of the atmosphere. In our projects, we donot use this sensor. It’s cost ranges from
12-20 Lakh.
2. PCCD: Passive Cloud Cover Detector by Optical sensor is used in our projects. The technology behind this is still not open
and Optical sensor retains monopoly of this technology. We use the 0-1Volt option of the sensor. The documentation is in
the following address.
https://5.imimg.com/data5/SELLER/Doc/2021/7/QC/LM/LQ/679314/passive-cloud-cover-detector.pdf
3. Sky Imager: Sky Imager is a product of Eko Instruments, Japan. It is basically a camera which takes pictures and send in
FTP protocol to a computer connected to it(Filezilla Server is installed and configured for this purpose). In a software (Find
Cloud Trinity by Eko) the pictures are evaluated and the evaluation file is stored in .txt files. These files are again used by
another software (Cloud Cover by MBCS) which takes the CCF and converts them into Okta and sends the data in Modbus
TCP protocol ti SCADA/Datalogger. For the sky imager to function properly, three softwares namely Filezilla server, Find
Cloud Trinity and Cloud Cover should run. Any one software failure will stop data being transmitted. Read the manuals from
the following location.

Important points
1. Kipp and Zonen Pyrheliometers need a tracker to track the sun. So a Razon is mandatory requirement for them to work.
2. MS90 of Eko Instruments donot need a tracker. It has a rotating mirror which takes samples of the radiation.

Soiling Station
What is the use of soiling station?
Soiling station is used to determine the cleaning cycle of a solar plant.
There are two solar panels, one is clean and the other is soiled.
The clean solar panel is to be cleaned daily. Soiled panel to be cleaned during the cleaning cycle of the plant.
Soiling station calculation is effective only during the solar noon time. So, according to IEC
Two Types of Soiling Station are there in conventional soiling station. One with Auto Clean and other without
Autoclean.

A third Soiling sensor is there which is not a conventional system. The soiling sensor senses the soiling and dust
particles by scattering of light. The device is Dust IQ by Kipp and Zonen.
