Dot matrix printers print characters using pins that strike an ink ribbon to produce dots. Speed and print quality vary depending on the number of pins, ranging from 50 to 500 characters per second and 9 to 24 pins. Line printers can print an entire line at once using a wide print head at speeds up to 3,000 lines per minute. Band printers use an embossed metal band to print characters that can only be changed by replacing the band. Inkjet printers spray ink through nozzles using either a continuous stream or drop on demand method. Laser printers use a laser beam and electrophotographic process to fully print a page at a time.

Printer Printer
A device that prints text or
illustrations on paper. There are many different types of printers Dot Matrix Printer
A type of printer that produces
characters and illustrations by striking pins against an ink ribbon to print closely spaced dots in the appropriate shape Dot Matrix Printer Dot-matrix printers vary in two important characteristics: • speed: Given in characters per second (cps), the speed can vary from about 50 to over 500 cps. Most dot-matrix printers offer different speeds depending on the quality of print desired. • print quality: Determined by the number of pins (the mechanisms that print the dots), it can vary from 9 to 24. The best dot-matrix printers (24 pins) can produce near letter-quality type, although you can still see a difference if you look closely Line Printer A high-speed printer capable of printing an entire line at one time(wide print head). A fast line printer can print as many as 3,000 lines per minute. Band Printer. A line printer that uses a metal band. The band contains a fixed set of embossed characters that can only be changed by replacing the band. The band spins horizontally around a set of hammers, one for each print column. When the required character in the band has revolved to the selected print column, the hammer pushes the paper into the ribbon and against the embossed image of the letter, digit or symbol. Band Printer Ink Jet Printer A printer that spraying ink through tiny nozzles onto the medium. Today, almost all inkjet printers produce color. Low- end inkjets use three ink colors (cyan, magenta and yellow), but produce a composite black that is often muddy. Four-color inkjets (CMYK) use black ink for pure black printing. Ink jet Printer
The first inkjet mechanism that was developed
sprays a continuous stream of droplets that are aimed onto the paper. Although still used, most inkjets use the drop on demand method, which forces a drop of ink out of a chamber by heat or electricity. The thermal method used by HP, Canon and others heats a resistor that forces a droplet of ink out of the nozzles by creating an air bubble in the ink chamber. Epson and others use a piezoelectric technique that charges crystals which expand and "jet" the ink. Ink Jet Printer Laser Printer
A printer that uses a laser and the
electrophotographic method to print a full page at a time. The laser "paints" a charged drum with light, to which toner is applied and then transferred onto paper Laser Printer (1)Rotating mirror reflects laser, which projects image on to the rotating drum (2)Paper is given to the static charge (3) Toner is transferred to the charged paper by the drum (4) fuse the toner to the paper.
