Printmaking

Printmaking

- A process of creating images (prints)from one original

surface, by hand usually on paper. It has an element of
originality, rather than just being a photographic
reproduction of a painting.

- Transferring an inked image from one surface to another. It

is an art that allows you to make one copy or several copies
of the image. You can make nature prints, object prints, or
stencil prints. You can even use body parts.
Printmaking

- In printmaking, the plate is usually made of wood, metal,

or linoleum. Different techniques are also used like –
etching, lithography, and woodcut.

-
leaf prints are a common favorite because you can see the
beautiful organic lines.
Aside from your body parts, you can make prints with your
pets too.
Ever tried using a block of wood with strings on it? Paint it
and see those lines on paper.
You can also spatter or spray paint using your old
toothbrush.
Paint one side, fold it, and see its mirror print on the other
side.

Stencil Prints
These are images created by cutting out a design or shape
from a piece of cardboard or other material to leave an open
shape. The stencil is placed on paper and inked to fill the
design.

Show the shapes.

Apply repetition and emphasis

Use the same shapes to show repetition. Show an area where

there is a contrast in the shapes you repeated to show
emphasis. A good print design uses repetition and emphasis
of shapes.
Use complementary colors

Apply complementary colors to make your work look more

exciting.

Be safe and have fun making stencil prints

Draw your abstract shapes on it then use a craft knife and craft
mat to remove the excess parts. Be very careful when you are
handling the knife. Also, check your paints before inking them in
your stencil.
Shape and Letters

Just as there are stencil for shapes, there are also stencil for
letters. Letters are lines that are combined to form words that
you can read. Letters can be duplicated may times by hand or
by a machine. It does not matter what they re made of.

Creating letter stencils is fun because you can choose and

create typefaces, the styles of lettering for the printed
material. A typeface and a type style mean the same.
Shape and Letters

Whichever type of lettering you choose for your stencil, you

need to make sure that it is both legible and attractive so
other people can read and appreciate it.
