Fundamentals of Computer

COMPUTER Stands for Common Operating Machine Purposely Used for Technological and Educational Research.

Computer is an advanced electronic device that takes raw data as an input from the user and processes it under the control of a set of
instructions (called program), produces a result (output), and saves it for future use. This tutorial explains the foundational concepts of
computer hardware, software, operating systems, peripherals, etc. along with how to get the most value and impact from computer
technology.

There are many different types of computers, but here are 7 of the most common Computer:
1.Supercomputers
2.Mainframe computers
3.Minicomputers
4.Personal computers (PCs)
5.Workstation computers
6.Microcontrollers
7.Smartphones.
1.Supercomputers
A supercomputer is a type of computer with a high level of
performance as compared to a general-purpose computer .

2.Mainframe computers
A mainframe, also known as big iron, is a high-
performance computer used for large-scale, compute-
intensive purposes and tasks that require greater
availability and security than smaller-scale machines.

3.Minicomputers
Minicomputer, computer that was smaller, less expensive, and
less powerful than a mainframe or supercomputer but more
expensive and more powerful than a personal computer

4.Personal computers (PC)


A personal computer (PC) is a digital device designed for
personal purposes, such as working, studying, gaming, and
browsing the internet.

5.Workstation computers
Workstation computers are specialized computers designed
to handle intensive tasks such as three-dimensional (3D)
rendering, engineering simulations, and computer-aided design
(CAD) software like AutoCAD
6.Microcontrollers
A microcontroller is a single integrated circuit, commonly
with the following features: central processing unit – ranging
from small and simple 4-bit processors to complex 32-bit or 64-
bit processors. volatile memory (RAM) for data storage. ROM,
EPROM, EEPROM or Flash memory for program and
operating parameter storage.

7.Smartphones
A smartphone consists of a handheld computer integrated
with a mobile phone.
