Private IP Address
Static IP Address

 It is manually configures and fixes their devices network and the IP Address cannot be
changed automatically.
Static IP Address
Dynamic IP Address

 It is automatically assigned by a network when a router is set up.

Dynamic IP Address
What is IPv4?

 Is a fourth version of IP it is used to interconnect the internet and other networks. The
protocol was first deployed on the Atlantic Packet Satellite Network (SATNET) in the
year 1982.
IPv4
IP Address Classes

 Class A
 Class B
 Class C
 Class D
 Class E
Class A.

 Is an IP Addresses between 10.0.0.0 and 10.255.255.255 with a range from 0 – 127 and
have 126 networks
Class A.
Class B

 Is An IP Addresses between 172.16.0.0 and 172.31.255.255 is used for networks with a

size from medium to large and it makes possible to have 16, 384 networks
Class B
Class C

 Is an IP Addresses between 192.186.0.0 and 192.168.255.255 it is used by a small

businesses and household networks and it can support nearly 2 million networks by
reserving the First Three Octet.
Class C
Class D or Multicast

 Is an IP Addresses between 224.0.0.0 and 239.255.255.255 does not have any subnet mask
and no need to extract host address.
Class D
Class E Experimental

 Is an IP Addresses between 240.0.0.0 and 254.255.255.254 and it is hidden from the cloud
and it can allows traffic to reach the host.
Class E
Internet Addresses and Subnets

 IP Addresses is assigned by the Internet service provider while the subnet is identified by
the network.

IPv4 vs IPv6

 IPv4 has not been able to cope with the massive explosion in the quantity and range of
devices and it cannot handle the number of addresses while the IPv6 has a standard that
operates Hexadecimal format which use 16 distinct symbols of 0 – 9 followed by A – F to
represent t values of 10 – 15 using the Hexadecimal Digits that contains or consists of
eight groups.
IPv4 vs IPv6
IP Address vs MAC Address

 Mac Address is the physical address of a device while the IP Address has a unique
identifier with the attachment to that device.
IP Address vs MAC Address
IP Address vs MAC Address

 A MAC address is a 6-byte hexadecimal address while an IP Address is 4 – 16 bytes

address
 A MAC address is in data link layer while an IP Address is in network layer.
 A third party will have a difficult time finding a MAC address while it can easily find an IP
Address
 MAC addresses are static, while IP Addresses can change dynamically
 MAC addresses and IP addresses are necessary to get a network packet destination.
However no one can see your MAC address unless they are on your LAN.
What are security threats related to IP Address?

 Allowing a cybercriminal to use your IP Address to track your location

 Using your IP address to target your network and launch a DDos attack
