CHARACTER FORMATTING
A character is any letter, number, space, punctuation
mark, or symbol. Changing the appearance of characters to
fit the user’s preferences is one feature of a word processor

FEATURES AND ITS FUNTIONS:
SCALE – It changes the height or the width of characters by percentage.
SPACING – It increases or decreases the spacing between character. The options are
normal, expanded, or condensed.
POSITION – It changes the position of your text by creating raised or lowered
characters.
KERNING – Similar to spacing, It is usually used in certain pairs of characters as defined
in the chosen font.
LIGATURES – It is used to combine characters, standard only, standard and contextual,
historical and discretionary, or all of them aforementioned.
NUMBER SPACING – It increases or decreases the spacing between numbers. The options
are default, proportional, or tabular.
NUMBER FORMS – It arranges the numbers on a baseline. The options are default, lining,
and old style.
STYLISTIC SETS – It embellishes the character form.
Paragraph Formatting
In the Page Layout tab, you can see these icons that will give you more
options for adjusting the left and right indents and the spacing before and
after paragraphs.

Sort- It categorizes a list in ascending or descending order, using alphabetical or
numeral order.
Alignment-it lines up each line of a paragraph to the left, center, or right. Each
line may also be lined up evenly on either side, referred to as justified alignment.
Shading-It adds a colored background to selected line or
paragraphs.
Boarders-It adds different types of borders around the selected paragraph.
Clicking the arrow button or the paragraph dialog box launcher button located on
the bottom right of the paragraph group will give you particular options in
formatting. There are two tabs in a dialog box. The first tab is Indents and
Spacing.

Features and its functions:
Alignment-It gives more options for the alignment of the paragraph.
Outline Level-It adjusts the level on which paragraphs appear in Outline View.
Indentation-It gives more options for the indentation of the paragraph.
Spacing-It gives more options for the spacing of the paragraph.
The next tab on the dialog box is Line and Page Breaks. This is where you can find
more options for formatting paragraphs.

Features and its functions:
Pagination-It numbers the pages in the document. This can be done in the following ways;
>Window/Orphan control-this will break the paragraph at the end of a page if it contains four or more lines.
>Keep with next-This will keep the paragraph and the next paragraph on the same page, and no page break will
occur between them.
>Keep lines together-This will keep all the lines in the paragraph
on the same page unless the paragraph cannot fit on a single page.
Page break before-This will move the paragraph at the top of the page to the previous page, below the preceding
paragraph.
Formatting Exception-It contains some limitations for formatting your paragraph, such as
suppressing line numbers and choosing not to hyphenate.
There is also an option for tabs. Clicking tis button will allow you to set tab stops within
your paragraph. This is used to line up characters in the document. You can align them in
the given default positions or add leaders that align the text to a tab.
