Plot Points

The document provides instructions for graphing polynomial functions. It gives an example of graphing the polynomial function P(x) = x(x - 3)(x + 1) in 5 steps: 1) factor the polynomial, 2) find the x-intercepts, 3) determine if the graph rises or falls based on the degree and leading coefficient, 4) make a table of values, and 5) plot the points and draw a smooth curve. It then asks the reader to graph another polynomial function and provides a multiple choice quiz on polynomial concepts.

GOOD MORNING!!!

GRAPHING POLYNOMIAL
FUNCTION
Example 5. Sketch the graph of the polynomial
function P(x) = x(x − 3)(x + 1).
Solution: Let us use the steps in graphing the
polynomial function Step
1. Factor the polynomial function. The given
function is already in factored form.
Step 2. The x – intercepts are -1, 0 and 3. Plot
these values to create intervals.
Step 3. The degree is 3 which is odd and
the leading coefficient is positive 1. Thus,
the graph falls on the left and rises on the
right.
Step 4. Fill in the table of values for P(x) by
using x – values in each Interval
Step 5. Plot all the points and
connect the points with a
smooth curve.
Step 6. The number of
turning points is 2.
Directions: Sketch the graph of
the following polynomial
functions.
a) P(x) = x(x − 1)²(x + 2)³(x + 3)
Read each item carefully and write the CAPITAL letter
that corresponds to your answer. Write your answer in
a separate sheet of paper.

Temperature (y) at using the equation of
15 minutes (x) the line

ACTIVITY: USING
THE EQUATION y = 2.5x+ 25

OF THE LINE y = 2.5 (15) + 25

Predict the temperature of the liquid

y = 62.5°C
after 15 minutes of heating.

After 15 minutes of heating, the temperature of

y = 2.5x+ 25 the liquid is predicted to be 62.5°C.
