AUDIENCE:
1. A man called theophilus

Purpose of Writing

Acts were written as a chronicle of the
early church. The book's main focus is
on completing the Great Commission.
The apostles were Christ's witnesses in
Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the
rest of the world. It exposes the Holy
Spirit's gift of empowerment, guidance,
teaching, and so on. The gospel's power
to spread over the world and alter lives

1. JERUSALEM
(chapters 1-7)

The apostles' ministry (3:1-26) brought not only
conversions (4:4; 5:12-16) but also persecution
(4:1-22; 5:17-42; 6:8-7:60). However nothing
could stop them, though Ananias and Sapphira's
deception almost destroyed the very thing the
church was becoming known for and was
ruthlessly deale with (5:1-11). The persecution
climaxed in Stephen's martyrdom (7:54-60).

2. Judea and samaria
(chapter 8)

The church got stuck in Jerusalem and Judea, enjoying
success but failing to push out Rome in 27.1. further, so
God used the persecution to drive them out of their
comfort zone (8:1). Philip preached so successfully in
Samaria (8:4-13) that the apostles had to go and see what
was happening and pray for the new believers to receive
the Spirit (8:14-25). At last, the gospel had escaped its
Jewish confines. An African eunuch's conversion was
another step in the church reaching out to everybody

(8:26-40).
2. Ends of the earth
(chapters 9-28)

A huge turning point was Saul's conversi (9:1-18),
leading to the gospel reaching Damascus and Tarsus
(9.20-31) Meanwhile Peter's vision prepared him for God
giving his Spiric to Gentiles (10:1-11-18). Another
breakthrough came when Saul (now Paul) made Antioch
his base, from which his missionary travels stretched
ever-deeper into the Roman empire, with churches
planted in Asia Minor, Greece and even Rome itself
(chapters 13-28). Acts has an open-ending, underlining
that the work of the gospel still continues
