What is an INFINITIVE verb?
1)The form of a verb that you find in the dictionary

2)The ‘title’ of the verb

3) It means ‘to…’ in English

Examples in English: to go, to do, to have …


In Spanish all infinitives end
in:
• –AR
e.g. hablar (= to speak)

• -ER
e.g. comer (=to eat)

• -IR
e.g. escribir (=to write)

• The most common group of verbs in Spanish end in -ar.


• To form the present tense of regular -ar verbs use this simple
formula:
• 1 Remove the -ar ending.
• 2 Add one of the endings shown below.
(Personal pronoun) HABLAR To speak
• (yo) hablo I speak
• (tú) hablas you speak (singular)
• (él/ella) habla he/she/it speaks
• (nosotros/nosotras) hablamos we speak
• (vosotros/vosotras) habláis you speak (plural)
• (ellos/ellas) hablan they speak
