Introduction to Adobe InDesign
• InDesign provides the tools necessary to design or create professional pages which
can be published and distributed in print or digital media.
• InDesign is especially useful for documents containing multiple pages, layouts
that combine text and images, and those containing significant amounts of
text.
• InDesign format (INDD) is the default file format which stands for InDesign
document, that InDesign uses for saving data.
• The general usages of InDesign is to create a variety of digital and printed material
such as stationery, resumes, pamphlets, annual reports, catalogs, Interactive
digital publications, electronic publication (EPUBs), books, magazines, & more.

InDesign Workspace
• Adobe InDesign Workspace consists 8 main components which are:
• Application Bar.
• Workspace Switcher.
• Menu Bar.
• Options Bar (Control Panel)
• Tools Panel.
• Document Window.
• Panel Bar.
• Status Bar.

• Application Bar: It contains a bunch of icons that give us quick access to various
options and functionality and sits on the top of your InDesign window.

• Menu Bar: It contains various menu options for InDesign’s tools.

• Options Bar (Control Panel): It contains InDesign’s tool options and sits below
the menu bar.

• Tools Panel: It contains the major tools of InDesign and it sits to the left of your
InDesign’s window.

• Document Window: It’s where displays the file you’re working on which is the
large area in the center of the interface. The actual area where the file is visible is
known as the Page.

• Panel Bar: It hold information or options for working with your file and floats on
the right-hand side.

to complex shapes by creating set of anchor points as
a basis for design.
• Add Anchor Point Tool (=): The Add Anchor Point
Tool allows you to add anchors and reshapes existing
vector shapes / paths.

• Rectangle Frame Tool (F): The Rectangle Frame
Tool allows you to creates Rectangular frame that can
hold images (image placeholder).
• Ellipse Frame Tool: The Ellipse Frame Tool allows
you to creates Elliptical frame that can hold images
(image placeholder).
• Polygon Frame Tool: The Rectangle Frame Tool
allows you to creates multisided frame that can hold
images (image placeholder) .
