Bypass System

The document discusses the high pressure/low pressure bypass systems of Jindal Power Limited's OPJ Super Thermal Power Plant. The HP/LP bypass systems allow for boiler temperature control during cold starts, faster starts by matching boiler and turbine temperatures, and accommodating transient boiler steam flow excesses. The LP bypass valve is a combination stop and control valve. The HP bypass has interlocks to protect the boiler and turbine under various abnormal conditions.

Hp & lp by pass system

OF

Jindal Power Limited

O.P.J. Super Thermal Power Plant (4x250 MW), Tamnar
Why HP/LP bypass system..?

• For cold starts, if necessary for Boiler temperature control.

• On hot starts, to facilitate matching of Boiler Steam

temperature and Turbine Metal Temperature, prior to
Steam admission to the Turbines, thus achieving a faster
start and reduced thermal stress in the Turbine.

• To accommodate transient excesses in Boiler Steam flow,

thus stabilizing Boiler Steam flow and helping to avoid
operation of Boiler safety valves.

• On load rejection or Turbine trip, the Bypass system will

handle sufficient Steam flow to avoid a Boiler Trip, thus
allowing rapid reloading when the fault condition clears.

LINE UP OF HPBP
HP BYPASS INTERLOCKS & PROTECTIONS

HPBP Pr CV BP-1 & BP-2 will priority close if

a) Condenser vacuum is < -0.7 kg/cm2.
b) Turbine axial shift very high.
C) TG Lube oil pr very low( < 0.8 kg/cm2 )
d) Downstream temp. of CV is>380°C
e) TG shaft vibration very high.
FAST OPENING CONDITION OF HPBP

 HP bypass opens fully for 2 sec duration during

following abnormality to avoid sudden pressure rise
for the safety of the boiler under following condition
a) Turbine trips. or
b) Generator breaker open or
c) Turbine load shedding relay operated or
d) Fast open push button operated or
e) Ms pressure before MS stop valve > 165 Kg/cm2

Presently fast opening of HPBP has been bypassed.

OPERATING CONDITIONS OF SPRAY CV

Spray CV BPE-1 & BPE-2 will close if BP-1/BP-2

opening is< 2%.
BPE-1/BPE-2 will open in the case of fast opening.
BPE-1/BPE-2 switch over to auto if BP-1/BP-2
opening>2%.
BPE-1/BPE-2 get auto block if oil pressure is very
low.

LP BY-PASS VALVE
LPBP valve is the combination of both LPBP
stop valve and LPBP control valve.
LPBP SV is of full open & full close type. It
opens by the oil pressure and closes by
spring pressure.
LPBP control valve open & closes both by
the oil pressure. It opens or closes as per
command by the controller.

LPBP STOP VALVE

 The EHA of each LPBP-SV is provided with a pilot valve

(solenoid valve) and 2 nos. Trip Solenoid Valves (TSV) for
redundancy. Each TSV is provided with 2 coils for
reliability.
 On receiving a trip signal, both coils of a TSV must de-
energized to cause trip.
 The opening & closing of bypass SV is done over the pilot
valve, which is controlled in relationship to the pressure
controller output signal.
LPBP CONTROL VALVE

The operation of the EHA is controlled by Proportional Valve

(PV) control unit.
The control unit will position the valve as well as block the
cylinder.
The positioning valve converts an electric signal into a
proportional hydraulic signal.
The blocking function is done by two releasable check
valves and one 3/2 way valve. By energizing the 3/2 way
v/v, the two check valves are opened hydraulically and
permit oil to flow freely to and from the cylinder. When the
3/2 way valve is de-energized the check valve close and the
actuator is blocked in its momentary position.

Condenser vacuum <0.6 bar, or
Condenser wall temp is > 90 deg.C , or
HPSU emergency off or
CF pump-1&2 protection off & position set pt.
LPBP>-40 %.
Water injection operated.
