What is filtration?
The technique used in
separating insoluble solid from
a liquid is done with the used
of;
Filter cloth
Filter paper
What is sieving?
SIEVING is a method in
which two or more
components of different
sizes are separated from
mixture on the basis of the
difference in their sizes
which uses sieve.
Identify the technique used in
separating the following
mixtures. Write F for filtering and
S for sieving

SEPARATING
MIXTURES
EVAPORATION
EVAPORATION
is a process of
separating mixtures which
involves heating the
solution until the solvent
evaporates leaving behind
the solid residue
HEAT
being the main component of
this process separates the
mixtures of solid from liquids.
As liquids goes into air in a
form of gas when heated,
changing liquid to gas is an
example of physical change
Some examples of evaporations
are boiling water and drying
clothes.
ACTIVITY TIME!
1. What kind of mixture is
water and salt?
SOLUTION
2. What happened to the
salt solution when heated?
The water
evaporates and the
salt remains in the
watch glass
3. How did we separate the
component of mixtures?
In the salt solution, salt
is separated from the
water by heating the
mixtures. This process
is called evaporation
Draw if it undergoes
evaporation process and if not.
2. Watching tv
Draw if it undergoes
evaporation process and if not.
3. Salt making
Draw if it undergoes
evaporation process and if not.
4. Cooking rice
Draw if it undergoes
evaporation process and if not.

Arrange the jumbled
letters to form a
correct science term
or word and give a
short definition.

1. What is the process of
separating soluble solids to liquid
through heating?
a. evaporation
b. filtration
c. picking
d. sieving
2. In the evaporation process
liquid becomes ____ when
heated.
a. ice cubes
b. plasma
c. solid
d. vapor
3. Which of the following situation
show evaporation process?
a. drying of clothes under the
heat of the sun
b. filtering sand and water
c. freezing water in the freezer
d. flooding of water in
the river
4. Marivel leaves a glass of water outside
the house. As days go by, the amount of
water become less. What do you think is
the reason for this?
a. insect sipped the water
b. water in the container was not
change
c. water in the container evaporated
d. Mother accidentally throw
the water in the glass.
Evaporation is a process of
separating mixtures which
involves ________________

Solid residue evaporates
Heating the solution
EVAPORATION METHOD
A grade 6 science class
group of pupils would like to
separate salt from water.
What method will they use
to separate the mixture?
In the
illustration,
explain a few
sentence about
the method of
separating
mixture and
give its benefit
of separating it.
The illustration shows drying of
wet clothes under the heat of
the sun. the water in the clothes
evaporates, forming into a gas.
As the water evaporates, the
clothes become dry and ready to
be worn again.
