 Common Maintenance Operations

Laser
 When working with laser, pay attention to the following issues:
 Human safety
 Light emitted by the laser on the optical interface unit is the invisible infrared
light. If directly going into the eyes, the light will bring permanent damage to eyes.
During the equipment maintenance process, avoid directly exposing naked eyes to
the laser light.
 Equipment safety
 Cover the unused optical connector on the optical interface unit or tail fiber with
the protective cap.
 Add the attenuator when using the tail fiber to conduct hardware loopback test on
the optical interface.
 Avoid exchanging the optical interface units or optical modules at will.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 10

Electric Safety

 Antistatic measures
 Before getting in contact with the equipment, board, or IC chip, wear the
antistatic wrist strap and connect the other end of the antistatic strap to the
antistatic jack on the equipment subrack.
 Precautions for power supply maintenance
 It is prohibited to install or remove the equipment when the power is on.
 It is prohibited to install or remove the power cables when the power is on.
 Before connecting the cables, confirm that the cable and cable labels are
consistent with the intended ones.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 11

Board Maintenance
 Antistatic measure
 If the board is not used, keep the board in the antistatic bag. Before handling
the board, wear the antistatic wrist strap and ensure the wrist strap is properly
grounded.
 Moisture-proof measure
 Generally, the drying agent should be placed in the antistatic bag to absorb
the moisture in the air inside the bag and keep the dryness inside the bag.
 Board mechanical safety
 Avoid vibration when transporting the boards. Vibration is apt to bring
damage to boards.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 12

T2000 Maintenance
 It is prohibited to change the system time of the server when the T2000 is running.
 It is prohibited to change the computer name and IP address of the T2000 server unless necessary.
 Ensure the stability of the working power of the computer where T2000 is installed. UPS is recommended to
supply the power.
 In the UNIX operating system, use the username “t2000” to log in to the T2000 server. In the Windows
operating system, log in to the T2000 server by using the username and password configured upon the
installation of T2000. Do not change the login username and password in the Windows system.
 When using the T2000, ensure that the data on the NE and on the T2000 are consistent.
 Synchronize the NE time and T2000 time periodically.
 Back up the T2000 database periodically to minimize the loss caused by the system exceptions.
 The T2000 License file must be obtained through legal channel and properly saved. It is prohibited to make
any change on the License file. Otherwise, the License may be invalidated.
 It is recommended that you query the latest data on the NE before setting parameters on the T2000.
 It is prohibited to use the T2000 for service allocation in the traffic peak hour.

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES CO., LTD. Huawei Confidential Page 13

Adjusting the Mechanically Tunable
Attenuator

 During routine maintenance, if it is required to adjust the mechanically tunable

attenuator, pay attention to the revolving direction of the regulator handle. When
handle is revolved clockwise, the attenuation value increases and the output
optical power decreases. Otherwise, the attenuation value decreases and the
output optical power increases.

 When revolving the handle, slow down the speed and impose a regular force.

 Remove the cap on the attenuator before adjustment and screw up the cap after

adjustment.

Cleaning the Optical Connector

 Confirm that the optical fiber to be cleaned is disconnected from the active component and is free of
light.
 Hold the optical connector. Use the fiber wiping paper to clean the surface of the ceramic pins. Slide
the paper slowly towards a direction and repeat the operation for two to three times.
 After the pin surface dries, use the compress gas to blow the pin surface.

Precautions for T2000 Routine
Maintenance
Pay attention to any obvious change when comparing the current performance data
with the history performance data, especially the change in optical power,
refrigerating current, and bias current.
 The refrigerating current of the pump laser varies with the temperature. The
deviation is less than 100mA. The range of the current is -200mA to 500mA. The
negative value indicates it is the heating current.
 The refrigerating current of OTU controls the wavelength of the laser.
 The refrigerating current of the pump laser varies with the operating environment
of the board. When the temperature of the environment is stable is above 0 oC, the
cooling effect is activated. When the temperature of the environment is stable is
below 0oC, the heating effect is activated.
 If the refrigerating current is too large, over refrigerating current alarm will be
generated. An error may occur to the working current of the laser.
 The bias current reflects the drive current of the pump laser. It controls the
output optical power of the laser. When the input power is stable, the variation
range of the bias current is ±15mA.
