Computer in A Changing World

Computers are changing lives in many ways. Years ago, people used calculators and landlines to perform math problems and make calls, which took time. Today, computers can solve billions of math problems instantly and people use mobile phones to call anyone anywhere within seconds. Other examples given include searching for information online instead of libraries, using ATMs instead of visiting banks, and online shopping 24/7. A computer is an electronic machine that accepts data as input, processes instructions, and outputs processed data as information. Computers can perform billions of tasks per second accurately but cannot think or correct errors on their own - they need correct user input and instructions.

COMPUTER IN A
CHANGING WORLD
Do You Know…….

What can a computer do?

How do computers affect the lives of people?

Computers : Changing Our Lives

Many scientific and technological advancers mark the

beginning of the twentieth century these advances include
inventions such as airplanes, televisions, and most especially the
computers.

Computers are changing our lives. They are sweeping away

the old ways of doing things with their superb speed and reliability.

performs instructions, and procedures output.

The processed data that are meaningful and useful

to the computer user are called information.
Capabilities and Limitations of a Computer

 Computers are very common nowadays. It is important that we

know the things that they can do and the things they cannot do.
What a Computer Can DO
1.A computer can do billions of tasks per second.
2.A computer can do things very accurately. Computer
failures are usually due to human error.
3.A computer can make decisions based on the set of
instructions given to it.
4.A computer can keep large amounts of data.
What a Computer Cannot DO
1.A computer cannot correct wrong instructions.
2.A computer cannot produce information on its own.
3. A computer cannot think on its own.
A computer needs to receive input and instructions for it to
perform its task. If you enter a wrong piece of information or
instruction, the computer will not be able to give the correct data
or do the right function the way you want it to. It can only give
out what you have given it. This known in computer language as
garbage in, garbage out or GIGO.
