Geometry

This document discusses different types of angles and properties of angles formed by parallel lines and a transversal. It defines acute, right, obtuse, straight, and reflex angles. When parallel lines are crossed by a transversal, corresponding angles, alternate angles, and co-interior angles are formed. Corresponding angles are in the same relative position on both lines. Alternate angles are on opposite sides of the transversal. Co-interior angles lie between the lines and add to 180 degrees if the lines are parallel. Examples are given of finding missing angle measures using these angle properties.

Types of Angles

Acute angles measure less than 90 degrees.

Right angles measure 90 degrees.
Obtuse angles measure more than 90 degrees.
Straight angles measure 180 degrees
Reflex angles measure more than 180 degrees
Revolution angles measure 360 degrees
Angles in Parallel Lines

 When parallel lines get crossed by

another line (which is called a
Transversal), you can see that many
angles are the same.
 These angles can be made into pairs of
angles which have special names.

 Corresponding angles
 Alternate angles
 Co Interior angles
Corresponding Angles

 Corresponding angles are the pairs of

angles that are found in the same relative
position on different intersections.
 So in the Diagram you can see that angle
1 = angle 5
 Likewise angle 3 = angle 6, so if angle 3
is 60 degrees, angle 6 will also be 60
degrees.
Alternate Angle
Alternate angles are the angles
formed on the opposite sides of the
transversal.
Hint: Look for the Z
In the given Diagam
Angle A = Angle D
If angle A= 60; then angle D =60
and
Angle B = Angle C
If Angle B = 120; then Angle C=
120
Co Interior Angles
Co-interior angles lie between two lines and
on the same side of a transversal. In each
diagram the two marked angles are called co-
interior angles. If the two lines are parallel,
then co-interior angles add to give 180o

Ex: the given angle DCF = 105 Degree

As Angle DCF and CFG are co interior,

which add up to 180.
So x = 180-105
= 75
Find the Value of a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i & j
Answer:
 a = 60 (as they are alternate angles)
 b = 50(as they are corresponding angles)
 c = 32 (as they are Co interior angles)
 d = 64 (as they are vertically opp angles)
 e= 64 (as they are alternate angles)
 g = 55 (180-125 = 55)
 f = 55 (as they are alternate angles with g)
 h = 76 (as they are vertically opp angles)
 i = 76 (as they are alternate angles with i)
 j = 104 (as they are Co interior angles with h)
