Aircraft Design

The document discusses the key considerations and requirements for aircraft fuselage design. It outlines that the fuselage length and diameter must be determined based on accommodation needs, structural integrity, aerodynamic properties, and other operational factors. It also discusses specific volume requirements for passenger seating, crew quarters, fuel storage, engine placement, and landing gear. Aerodynamic shape and drag estimation are additional important design aspects covered.

Unit-4 Fuselage Design

Unit-4

1
Design Requirements
Two major fuselage parameters that must be determined during the
design process are: (i) fuselage length (Lf) and (ii) maximum
diameter (Df).
 The fuselage configuration as well as these two parameters are
functions of several design requirements. In general, the following
are the fuselage design requirements:
accommodation requirement;  structural integrity and strength;
 operational and mission  maintainability;
requirements;  manufacturability;
airworthiness requirement;  cost;
crashworthiness requirement;  long life;
 aerodynamic requirement;  radar detestability.
 aircraft stability requirement;
 low weight;1
 low wetted area and low side area;
 symmetry;
