Location of Asia

 Asia is located east of


Europe, North of the Indian
Ocean, and it is bordered on
the East by the Pacific Ocean.
The size of Asia is
Size 44,579,000 square kilometers.
Asia covers an area of

(17,212,000 sq mi), about
Asia 30% of Earth’s total land and
8.7% of the Earth’s total
surface area.
The boundaries of Asia are
to the east of the Suez
Cantal separating it from
Boundaries Africa; and to the east of the
Turkish Straits , the Ural
of Mountains and Ural River,
Asia and to the south of the
Caucasus Mountains and
the Caspian and Black Seas,
separating it from Europe.
Regions of
Asia
Asia is divided into six regions; South Asia,
East Asia, Southeastern Asia, West Asia,
Central Asia, and North Asia .
South Asia
 With a population of 1,870,640,803, South Asia is Asia’s largest sub-region. It comprises the sub-Himalayan SAARC countries,
including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. It is home to some of the most
populated cities in the world, including Delhi and Mumbai in India, Karachi in Pakistan, and Dhaka in Bangladesh.
East Asia
 Coming in second with a population of 1,624,853,705 is East Asia. Countries include; China, Mongolia, Taiwan, North Korea,
South Korea, and Japan, all are in this region. Some of the largest cities in the world are located within East Asia, including Tokyo
in Japan, and Seoul in South Korea.

With one of the most successful and developed economies in the world, East Asia’s financial situation is thriving. And is home to
some of the most technologically advanced countries, such as South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. The Japanese, with a median
age of 44.6, are the second ‘oldest’ people in the world.

Reaching Asia is an exceptionally long-haul flight for the US, but if you decide to visit China, you’ll glad to know, that over the
initial jet lag, you will be in a single time zone. China, despite being the third largest country in the world by area, has only one
time-zone.
South-East Asia
 Brunei, Cambodia, Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam are all located
in Southeast Asia, comprising a population of 647,589,953. This sub-region of Asia is geographically divided again, into Mainland
Southeast Asia, also known as ‘Indochina,’ and Maritime Southeast Asia. Mainland Southeast Asia consists of Vietnam, Laos,
Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, and Peninsular Malaysia, whereas ‘Maritime Southeast Asia,’ is Indonesia, the Philippines, East
Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, and East Timor.
West Asia
 The countries that fall in this region include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Georgia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait,
Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Belonging to the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt
is considered to be a transcontinental country. Regardless of the definitions, this sub-region is estimated to have a population
of 266,169,673.
Central Asia
 Asia’s smallest sub-region is Central Asia, which was considered to be a distinct region of the world
in 1843, by the geographer Alexander von Humboldt. This region contains exceptionally varied
geography, including high passes and mountains, as well as an ever-expanding range of deserts.
 With a population of 69,241,030, Central Asia includes five republics of the former Soviet Union,
including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

North Asia
 comprises Siberia and Russian Far East, which is located in the Asian part of Russia. North Asia is also
home to the Ural Mountains. Some of the major cities that are located in North Asia are Irkutsk,
Omsk, Vladivostok, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, and Barnaul, to name a few. Some of the languages
that are spoken in North Asia are Russian, Mongolic, Turkic, Ainu, and Eskima-Aleut. Though climate
in North Asia varies according to the region, it experiences very cold in winters.
 Asia is a continent with a large area, so it has various
topographies which are :
 1) Mountain range
The mountain range topography is the outstanding
topography of Asia. The mountain range is in the central
part of the region. The highest point from the sea level is
the Pamir Knot which is 8,616 meters above sea level, and
the highest peak is the Everest which is 8,848 meters above
the sea level. The important mountain ranges in Asia are

the Altai, the Yablonoi, the Stanovoy, the Kolyma, the

2) Plateau
Asia The plateaus in Asia are the highlands between the
mountain ranges with different height and areas.
2.1 The plateaus in the central part of the continent
are the Tibetan Plateau ( The highest plateau in the world )
and the Yunnan Plateau which is in the southern part of
China
2.2 The plateaus in the southern and the southwestern
regions of the continent are the Deccan Plateau in the
Indian Peninsula, the Iranian Plateau in Iran and
Afghanistan, the Aradian Pateau in the Aradian desert, the
Gobi desert, the Thar and the Syrian deserts.
3) Plains
The plain topography is the area with slightly different level of the surface in the area. It is also
the alluvium are which resulted from the accumulation of the decayed material carried by water.
Thus, this area is a fertile plain with water and convenient for transportation . This is the reason
why this area has been populated since the past. The significant plains for agriculture in Asia are
the lowlands around the Huang he River and the Yangtze River in China, the Sindhu in Pakistan
and India, the Khong River in the south part of Cambodia and Vietnam, the Red River in Vietnam,
the Chanophraya River in Thailand, and 5the Salween and Irrawaddy River in Myanmar. Aside
from these, there are the coastal pains near the Indian, Pacific and Arctic Oceans.

4) Island or archipelago
An island is the land surrounded by the sea. If there are many islands gathering together, we
call it “archipelago’, The important archipelagos in Asia are Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan,
Maldives and the Andaman Archipelago.
Asia is the continent in the middle of the three oceans, the Arctic Ocean near the North pole,
the Pacific Ocean in the east and the Indian Ocean in the south, There are many seas is Asia , such
as the Red, the Arabian, the Andaman, the Celebes, the Timor, the Banda, the Yellow and the
Japanese Seas.
