Gerunds as objects of prepositions


•Just like nouns, gerunds can be used as objects in sentences/clauses.
•They can be used as both direct objects as well as objects of prepositions:
Gerund as a direct object: Helena has mastered fencing.
Gerund as an object of a preposition: He quickly resorted to begging.

Idiomatic Expressions
•Idiomatic expressions are a type of informal language that have a meaning different
from the meaning of the words in the expression.
•They could be followed by either a gerund or an infinitive.
For example:
•My parents are looking forward to meeting you. They are very excited about it.
•I’m supposed to hand in this assignment tomorrow. I should do that because someone
in authority has demanded that.
