Brahmagupta was a 7th century Indian mathematician who made important contributions to mathematics in his book Brāhmasphuṭasiddhānta, including being the first to treat zero as a number. He discovered the Brahmagupta identity relating the product of two numbers that are each the sum of two squares to being representable as the sum of two squares in two different ways. Pythagoras was a 6th century BC Greek mathematician known for the Pythagorean theorem relating the sides of a right triangle, and for discoveries about angles in polygons. BRAHMAGUPTA (598 – 668CE)

Brahmagupta was a seventh century Indian mathematician and

astronomer, best known for his book
'Brāhmasphuṭasiddhānta'. The book was the first text that
treated zero as a number and gave references for using it in
calculations.

• BRAHMAGUPTA’S FIBONACCI IDENTITY :
Brahmagupta Fibonacci identity states that the product of the two
numbers each of which is a sum of 2 squares can be represented as
sum
of 2 squares in 2 different forms.
Brahmagupta’s problem:
BRAHMAGUPT’S THEOREM:

t if a cyclic quadrilateral is Ortho diagonal, then the perpendicular to a side

PYTHAGORAS (570-495 BC)

• Pythagoras of Samos is often described as the first pure

mathematician. He is an extremely important figure in the
development of mathematics yet we know relatively little about
his mathematical achievements.
Pythagoras, contributions to mathematics
• Pythagoras theorem
In a right-angled triangle, the square of the length of the
hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of length of other
two sides that contains the right angle.’
Tetractys
The Tetractys is a triangular structure also known as an equilateral
triangle that consists of 10 dots arranged in four rows. One point in the
first row, two points in the second, three points in the third, and four
points in the fourth row. The four rows add up to number 10.
Pythagoreans gave a very special place to the number 10. According to
them, 10 is a holy number. Tetractys represents the four classical
elements – fire, air, water, and earth.
 Adding further to his achievements, Pythagoras and his followers gave the idea
about the angles of the triangle.
The sum of interior angles of a polygon with n sides is equal to (2n-4) right angles
and the sum of its exterior angles is equal to four right angles.

Bhaskaracharya (1114–1185CE)

Bhaskaracharya born in the 12th century, Bhaskaracharya was a

curious child with a natural talent for mathematics and
astronomy. His father, Mahesvara, was a well-known
mathematician and astronomer, and he took Bhaskaracharya
under his wing and began to teach him the secrets of the
universe
Bhaskaracharya, contributions to mathematics.

• Lilavati: This part of the book discusses various mathematical

concepts such as fractions, surds, quadratic equations, indeterminate
equations, and permutations and combinations.
• Bijaganita : In this section, Bhaskara acharya delved deeper into the
world of algebra, exploring the concepts of quadratic equations,
arithmetic and geometric progressions, and continued fractions.
• Goladhyaya : This part discusses the movements of celestial spheres
and the motion of the planets. It includes a discussion of the Earth's
rotation on its axis and the calculation of the length of a day and a
night.
Shakuntala Devi (1929 - 2013)

Shakuntala Devi was a born Math Genious and millions of

students across the world learned from her with her workshops
in schools and colleges. She was crowned as Human-Computer
due to her strong calculative skills.
Shakuntala Devi, contributions to mathematics
 MATHABILITY:

 AWAKEN THE MATH GENIUS IN YOUR CHILD.

 MORE PUZZLES TO PUZZLE.
 BOOK OF NUMBER.

 FIGURING:

 THE JOY OF NUMBERS.

 IN THE WONDERLAND OF NUMBERS.
• As early as five years of her age, the world could realize that she was
a child prodigy. She was found to be an expert in highly complex
mental arithmetic.
Her passion to expand the human capacity made her develop the
concept known as ‘Mind Dynamics’.
