OVER VIEW
Reading is a vital part of learning, It is
Essential and serves as a basic building block
for learning, regardless of the school subject,
be it language arts or even math. In daily
life, the need to read things such as street
signs or prescriptions proves that reading is
also an important life skill. 2
OVER VIEW
Due to the COvid-19 health emergency, the
Department of Education suspended the face
to face classes and implemented distance
learning education. This is to ensure that
learning will continue amidst pandemic.
Parents assumed that teacher’s role even if
they have limited knowledge or without at all 3
teaching pedagogies and strategies.
OVER VIEW
The situation affected the reading
comprehension skills of learners, as because
they were not able to experienced face to
face instruction and meaningful strategies of
the teachers to address their educational
needs and interests.
4
OVER VIEW
With reference to this difficulty, the
problems and challenge faced by both
teachers and learners, the Innovators came
up with the idea of helping and assisting our
learners to become literate in reading and
numeracy and help them to become
independent reader. 5
OVER VIEW
Thus, “PROJECT TALINO” (Tigayon Assisted
Literacy and Numeracy Program Online) was born. A
special remedial teacher will collaborate with the
teacher adviser in identifying the learners that are
Full refreshers. After which, the remedial teacher
will have a one-on-one remediation in reading and
numeracy to the learners. Different teaching
strategy will be applied on the different learners to 6
cater their needs.
OVER VIEW
The decision of the Innovators is based on the
campaign of the Department of Education on
“Brigada sa Pagbasa”. The Innovation is student-
centered and with the goal of every child is a
reader before they proceed to the next grade
level. This innovation will promote the reading skills
development of the student and improve their
reading comprehension skills as well as to encourage
7
them the love for reading.

A child's reading skills are important to their success in school
as they will allow them to access the breadth of the curriculum
and improve their communication and language skills. In
addition, reading can be a fun and imaginative time for children,
which opens doors to all kinds of new worlds for them.
9
After assessing the students from grades one to three we found out that the
students reading skills is not satisfactory especially on their grade level, almost all 10
students are on full refresher stage.

This Innovation will focus on the development and improvement
of the students reading skills both in literacy and numeracy.
There will be a special Remedial teacher that will cater the
students who where identified as full refresher in their level.
They will be given an hour everyday to have a face-to-face
reading activities using different reading strategies like,
marungko approach, letter sounds,

1. Project Words: To help students develop automaticity with
word recognition, flash one word at a time on the board or
wall by quickly turning a projector on and off. Have students
orally read each word as it comes up.

2. Repeat and Speak: When asking students to write letters,
words, or sentences, use the following process to engage
multiple language skills at the same time: Say the letter,
word, or sentence twice. Have students repeat it back twice.
Have them write it once. Finally, have them read it aloud
once.

3. Allow Think Time: When asking a question, allow enough
“think time” for students to generate an answer.
4. Sort Words : Have students sort words from a story into parts
of speech.

6. Teach Phonics: When teaching subject area words, don’t
neglect phonics. For example, when introducing the word
“atmosphere,” don’t begin by writing the word. Instead,
pronounce the word, break it into spoken syllables, and then
write it one syllable at a time. Finally, discuss the meanings
of parts of the word (i.e., “atmos” is Greek for “vapor, steam,”
and “sphere” is Greek for “globe, ball”).

7. Cue the "ABCs": Have students use each letter of the
alphabet to begin a word that relates to a specific topic. For
example, if the topic is weather, students may choose the
word “arid” for the letter A, the word “barometer” for letter B,
and so forth.

A. Conceptualization Activities:
The innovation project was created by the innovators because of the
main objective that to help our learners improve their skills in both
literacy and numeracy. This was conceptualized with a thorough
discussion among the innovators and was presented also to the
School Head and teacher advisers. The tools used for assessments
were from the Department of Education so therefore it is quality
assured. The materials used during the remediation were validated
by the advisers and school head, it is appropriately inclined to
address the needs of the learners.

C. Project Management
The Project is s learner-centered as well as teacher friendly. We will utilize the
given assessment tool required and prescribed by the Department of Education
such as, CRLA in this way teacher can identify the learner’s literacy and
numeracy skills. Then the innovators will gather the data and identify the learners
that needs to be under the care of the Project TALINO innovation of both primary
and intermediate teacher innovators. This project will help the teachers increase
the learning success rate of all grade levels in all subject areas. The strategies
and instructional materials will be made and used depending on the needs and
level of the identified learner for improvement. Using the IRNSP (Individual
Reading and Numeracy Strategy Plan) the special remedial teacher will now
have a one on one teaching to the identified learners. 24

C. Project Management
The Learners will be virtually remediate by the remedial teacher or the teacher
will be sending materials through online to the learners with the help of parents
and guardians. This will be done three (3) times a week for a target of three (3
learners a day. Every end of the quarter the Special Remedial Teacher will have
the post-assessment using the same assessment tool that were used during the
pre-assessment. Then the Special Remedial Teacher will make a progress report
based on the result of the assessment. After which, the teachers will monitor the
progress of the learner and will continue on the improvement of the learner’s skill
both in literacy and numeracy.
Feedbacks on this project are gathered from parents and teachers

E. Resource Utilization
The Resources utilized in making the Innovation were Laptops
for research and virtual remediation, Cartolina, Flashcards,
Bond Papers for Printing of Instructional Materials, Pen and
Paper. The Innovators will utilize the materials provided by the
Office and given to the teachers as classroom supplies.

F. Risk and Issues Management
The implementation of the Innovation encountered issues when it
comes to online connectivity during the remediation. Some of the
learners do not have access to virtual remediation because of lack of
gadgets to be used and WiFi or data connectivity. Teachers find it
difficult to explain to the learners through virtual because of
connectivity issues as well. The issues were address through home
visitation following safety health protocols, if the teacher cannot reach
the learners virtually. We secured permits also by doing the home 28
visitation.

G. Progress Monitoring
To ensure the successful implementation and progress of the
project, the innovators and teachers conducted virtual survey and
interview. Furthermore, the innovators also conducted face-to-face
assessment to the learners to guarantee the improvement of the
learning skill and comprehension in both literacy and numeracy of
the learners. Also, feedbacks were gathered from the parents or
guardians and pupils to confirm that the objectives and goals of the
projects were successfully achieved. 29
