INTRODUCTION
In this study the sole focus is kept on the factors that increases lead time
and the strategies to reduce the lead time.
The aim of this study is to help the different supply chain analysts of the
garment industries and
other stakeholders so that they can find out the factors creating
bottlenecks in the supply chain network.
Also, to provide realistic approaches to reduce the lead-time.
OBJECTIVES
The general objective of the paper is reducing lead time
1. Learn about lead time.
2. Why lead time is important in readymade garments industry.
3. Learn which factors affecting lead time
4. Apply various methods for reduction of lead time.
5. Finding results.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Concept of Lead Time:-
As it is said, it is the amount of time required to complete a service, a production lot
or an order. Lead time is inter-related with the other production management
support tools.
The main place in Garments industry where Lead Time is vastly
require-
•Lead Time in supply chain management
•Lead Time in Manufacturing
•Lead Time in Apparel Industry
•Overall in increase profit by reduce lead time
METHODOLOGY
A case study is considered for sewing section to produce readymade garment which is one
of the major process in apparel industry. The average monthly production of the company
is 130,000 units and monthly working days 24. For this study a production line was
selected to observe 30 days in where five styles were run in a month. So, to meet the
buyers demand five changeovers were necessary to continue production. To complete one
style delivery manufacturer should start with fabric inspection then cutting, sewing,
ironing, packaging and storing sequentially. Sewing is the most time consuming and
critical process to make readymade garment. In sewing the major time killing non-value-
added process was style changeover. That’s why if sewing changeover time can be reduced,
manufacturing lead time would be reduced automatically.
RESULTS
Observe and measure the total changeover time. Changeover time should be recorded as the
interval between the stopping and full-speed restart of operations - normally between the last
good part produced in a production run and the first good part produced in the next
production run. In this step previous changeover time should be observed and measure with
standard time unite. A trouser line has been chosen consisting 60 sewing machines, 5 in-line
pressing machines and 3 quality checking tables and where each machine is handled by a
single operator.

RECOMMENDATION
Bangladesh is a developing country and still weak in infrastructure compared to
international standard. Poor supply of energy and gas, transport and port facility
which are essential elements of international trade are still below part. And to add
with the political instability, transport of readymade apparels to the destinations
through the port sometimes becomes a lengthy process.

CONCLUSION
An extended lead time is one of the major problems that the apparel sourcing world is
facing when exporting readymade apparels from Bangladesh is concerned. Apparel
sourcing bodies are one of the major stake holders of the readymade apparel trade and they
along with the Bangladesh authorities can endow their investment in improving the factors
affecting the lengthened lead time issue. The prevailing factors behind this are mostly
related to the efficacy of the supply chain and port facility. The major backlock in the
supply chain is the incomplete support of the primary textile industries that is supposed to
supply the raw materials to the readymade garments industries.
