Demo Math7

The document discusses sets, Venn diagrams, and operations on sets such as intersection, union, and difference. It provides examples of drawing Venn diagrams and calculating set operations to represent relationships between sets. The examples cover topics like people who play different mobile games, students buying ice cream, and tourists visiting locations in Palawan.

*OPERATIONS ON SETS*

 Intersection of sets
 Union of sets
 Difference of sets
Intersection of Sets
The intersection of sets A
and B, written as 𝑨∩ 𝑩 set
is a
of elements that are
members of both A and B
Example 1. Given the following sets:
A= {1, 2, 3, 4, 5,6} B= {2, 4, 6} C= {1, 3, 5}
Find: a. AB b. AC c. BC
2 3, 4,
A= {1, 2, 6
4 5,6}
a. AB= {2, 4, 6}
2 4,
B= {2, 4 66}

b. AC= {1, 3, 5} A= {1,

1 2, 33, 4, 5
5,6}
C= {1,
1 33, 5}
5
c. BC= { } Empty set Disjoint
Union of Sets
The union of sets A and B,
written as is a set of
elements that are members
of A, or members of B, or
members of both A and B.
Example 2. Given the following sets:
A= {a, e, i, o, u} B= {a, b, c, d, e}
C= {d, e, f} Find: a. AB b. BC c. AC

a. AB= a e,
{a, e i, o, u, b, c, d}

a. BC= {a, b, c, d
d, e,
e f}

c. AC= {a, e,
e i, o, u, d, f}
Difference of Sets
If A and B are two sets,
then their difference is
given by A - B or B - A.
A - B means elements of A
which are not the elements
of B.
Difference of Sets
Example 3. Given the following sets:
A= {2, 3, 5, 7, 8} B= {1, 3, 8} C= {1, 2, 5}
Find: a. A-B b. A-C c. B-C

a. A-B= {2, 5, 7}
b. A-C= {3, 7, 8}
c. B-C= {3,8}
*VENN DIAGRAM*

- diagram that shows the

relationship between and
among a collection of sets
Venn Diagram U A B
consists of:
a b
- rectangle which
represents the universal
set
- circle or circles inside the rectangle
represents set or sets being considered
- elements of the sets are inside the
circle

Example 4.
49 people in your neighborhood plays
mobile games. 15 people play mobile
legend only, 10 people play candy crush
only, five people play only candy crush
and mobile legend, and 3 people play
candy crush, mobile legend, and call of
duty. How many people play call of
duty?
Find: total no. of ML CC

Example 5.
A group of 50 grade-7 students go to a
store to buy ice cream. Each student
buys at least one bar. The store sells
two types of ice cream cones,
chocolate and vanilla. If 45 people buy
both types of ice cream cones, and 47
people buy at least one vanilla cone
each, how many people bought only
chocolate cones?
Find: no. of people C V

Out of the 50 students, 24 joined the trip to Coron; 18
went to Tubbataha Reef; 20 visited El Nido; 12 made
a trip to Coron and Tubbataha Reef; 15 saw
Tubbataha Reef and El Nido; 11 made a trip to Coron
and El Nido, and 10 saw the three tourist spots.
a. How many of the students went to Coron only?
b. How many of the students went to Tubbataha
Reef only?
c. How many joined the El Nido trip only?
d. How many did not go to any of the tourist spots?
ASSIGNMENT:
Research about the set of real
numbers. Write a tree diagram
about real numbers in a sheet of
paper, it will be checked before
the start of the lesson next
meeting.
